Title: Who is/was in the Armed Forces?
Post by: SPDave on July 19, 2005, 03:33:32 AM
I've seen on various and sundry posts that a number of us have served in the military.  Who are you, what branch, rank, MOS, where did you serve, deployments, etc?

I'll start.

I've been in the Alabama Air National Guard for almost 13 years
Staff Sargeant
Security Forces (what every other branch of the military would call Military Police)
Was depolyed to the UK during Operation Make the Country Forget Monica (ie Allied Force) and did the tour of the Sand Colored Countries since 9/11.

I am a newly commissioned ensign in the Navy.   Once I pass the bar, I will officially be in the Navy JAG Corps.

I'll be going to Newport, RI for Officer Indoctrination School (or "knife and fork school" to the rest of the Navy) on Aug 14, 2 weeks after I take the bar.  Then Naval Justice School from OCT - DEC.  Then the new wife and I will PCS to parts yet unknown.

The JAG detailers should be in touch in the next week or so to give me my first PCS assignment.

vfrocket, I was at Camp Snoopy 02-03.  Flew into and out of Al Udeid.  Had a couple of cop buddies from a reserve unit in Miami who were stationed at AU.  When I finally caught the Rotator back home and we were wheels up from Al Udeid, I decided to sleep until we landed in Germany.  I wake up 4 hours later, look out the window and see Camp Snoopy.  We were supposed to land at Doha International (right across the shared runway from Snoopy), pick up the replacement crew, and take off, but the new crew had some trouble clearing customs and we ended spending 6 hours on the ground not 500 yards from the base I thought I'd finally gotten rid of.  They closed that armpit down not long after I left.

Chances are I boarded you or you cargo at AU. I lived at Camp Andy which was only about 500 yards from the c130 ramp. I got so used to going to sleep to the sound of Allison turbo props that it took me a long time to get used to falling asleep without them.  :)

glad you were able to make it out... that rotator is one long flight back to the US. :thumb:

Was in the Air Force as an avionics technician on KC135R's.  Way too much money to be made on the outside to justify staying in longer then I had to.  Only made it to rank of E3 cuz I got out at 3 years.

In my opinion, the best Officers are mustangs, as long as they remember what it was like to be an E-2.

I called my wife from Germany and told her what time I'd be in Baltimore.  She told me not to leave the airport until I found her.  That was incredibly cool.  Of course, my bags were the last ones off the plane.  I always wondered who was responsible for that.  'Preciate it, bro!

Did you ever eat at Mr. D's on 231 while you were at Ft. Rucker?  Best all-you-can-eat fried chicken in the world.  That's my great uncle's place.
