Title: question/comment/rant
Post by: johnson on July 19, 2005, 07:37:58 PM
ok i`m new here so HELLO
got my 2005 GS500F about a month and a half ago - drove the 1000KM and took the bike in for the 1000km service at that point i mentioned the bike "knocked" at idle - service guy mentioned some thing about shimming the cam and how its not a big deal - COOL

get a call sayin come get your bike its done - ask about the knock , parts aren`t in yet but its safe to drive, ok go get it, pay $289.00 for the service work (OUCH)  it drive home and the knock is worse now... kinda pissed about the whole situation - instead of people commenting on how nice the bike is or looks i get - wow your motors toast comments ...

right now i`m waiting on the parts to come in , when ever that will be ... and watching my bike collect dust in the garage

does the $280 sound a lil pricy for the 1000km inspection ?

:(

thanks

Yes. Too pricey. Mine was well under $100.00 Canadian!

Got my bike back from the 600 mile service and it is running even better then before ;).

Tune/Service: $100.00
Oil Filter: $5.95
Oil 10/40 Torco: 8.85

Came out to be $120.25 with tax and other supplies.

That seem expensive, on my Honda it was free except for the oil and for the GS oil plus a nominal fee, can't recall now but nothing exceptional.

Mine was about $200.  Do they do the same thing at the 600mi services?  Mine was oil/filter, plugs, valve check, general inspection.  I figure $200 to keep the warranty is something I can just suck up and deal with.

One thing not mentioned lately, is that GSJack reported his camshaft endplay knock went down when he switched to 20w-50 oil (Delvac in his case, I think; Rotella is also a quality oil).  20w-50 should be safe down to about -6 degrees C (according to the owner's manual).  That said, some people prefer 10w-40, when it can be found without energy conserving additives.

It may be that during the maintenance, the bike was switched to a thinner oil, which made the knocking worse.  If the problem is camshaft endplay, then it is an annoying cosmetic issue.

holy shaZam! man, thats super expensive. My 1st service was free and i didnt even buy the bike from that dealership. Their policy is that 1st service on any suzuki is free. You got ripped.
