Title: oil around intakes?
Post by: Rema1000 on July 23, 2005, 04:15:12 PM
I took my carbs off today to clean the pilots.  Looking at the intake ports on the engine, there is a little oil in both intakes.  Looking at the butterflies on the carbs' exhausts, there is some black oily crud on the butterflies:

Is this normal?

I cleaned it up.  It turned-out to be a substance like tar: stiff and very sticky.  I had to use liquid wrench on a cloth to get it, and the throats around the butterflies clean.

Now that you've already cleaned it off ( ) I'd have to say that NO ... it's not normal.

being that it's on that side of the carbs do you think it could be a ethanol issue? some kind of additive that is building up?
