Title: Engine Oil
Post by: batmx3man on July 25, 2005, 12:46:02 AM
Im about to do an oil change and was thinking about getting royal purple oil (hear about it on TV all the time supposed to be good extra cooling stuff like that). I went to their site and they make motorcycle oil for 2 strokes thats it but they have the 10w40 in their auto section and was just wondering if theres a difference in car and motorcycle oil or not or if you guys have any suggestions on other brands. Oh and I read the How To on the oil change and it says that its recommended to change the O-ring for the oil filter cover was just wondering were I might pick me up one of those. Thanks.

This is one of the most exhaustively discussed topics on the board.  Try the search feature!

There are some differences between bike oil and car oil - but the biggest difference is the price, and IMHO it's not justifiable.  Go out and buy some Shell Rotella T 5W-40 and be happy.

Most aftermarket filters come with a replacement O-ring in the box.  Suzuki O-rings come separate.

read this article (Motorcycle Oil vs Automotive Oil) and decide for yourself.

i go with whats cheap. as long as you change your oil regularly i don't really see anything bad with automotive oil.
