Title: top speed??....
Post by: mastrind on July 25, 2005, 11:33:23 AM
So it's been a while since I rode a GS5.....and what is the top speed attainable.....just wondering cause I saw this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-GSX-R-60335396401-sc_W0QQitemZ4563476010QQcategoryZ50029QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) on ebay......and the guy says it'll push 130.....

....when I had my ol' 98, getting past 100 didn't work....maybe it was just my bike....

it all depends what kind of truck it's in the back of.

i think officially it's 105-110 mph......but given that the speedo is about 10% too high, some people think that it's 120 (and they could be right if the discussion is about indicated speed)

if the speedo was gauging too high....then wouldn't actual speed be lower by 10%??.....so 110 - 110*.1 = 99 mph....not 120 mph....or am I missing something here....

either way....it's just funny what people will say to sell their bike.....

what you're missing is that 120 is the indicated speed 120-(120*0.1)=108

I saw 125 on the gs (indicated) and I recall one member here stating he saw 130 regularly. So its possible as an indicated speed.

ahh.....now I see.....gotcha.....

....maybe my ol' GS5 had a regulator on it.....it never went 100+.....just maxed out around 98 mph......course....I was a newbie back then....and I had no reason to go 100+....

also, the faired version is much more willing to hit those speeds.

I had mine up to 115 on the way home from PA this weekend.  I didn't like it, it felt like I was abusing the GS.  But it's possible :dunno:

I agree.  It's possible.

[don't tell the cops this]Last summer I was the only one on a fresh level piece of super-slab and, don't remember why, I tested my nerve.  Got'er up to 94 MPH (indicated) in a tank-loving tuck behind my flyscreen in 6th, and the tach was only at 8K -- still 3K from redline.  Squeezing another 15 MPH would have been easy -- another 30 MPH, perhaps but that would have been pushing it. (Perhaps a fairing might have made me more slipperly. :dunno: )[/don't tell the cops this]

Maybe in the right conditions (warm air, tail wind, down hill slope) but it would need to be a good day to hit 130 MPH.

It's my opinion, but you can use it if you want to.  :)

The quickest my 2004 has been thus far is 180km/h which is around 112.5 mph. I found it got to 160km/h (100mph) pretty fast but was quite slow from then on. She still had more but I was running out of road.

I've got my 05 up to 130mph (indicated), did it fairly quickly too, I didn't even realize I was going that fast till i looked down at the speedo...   Didn't seem like 130....   :o

Same as above :thumb:
although I have since changed the sprockets so at a guess I would now max out at between 175-180KMH

I have had my stock '05 F to 115 when it shut down due to fuel starvation.  I have had it between 100 to 110 plenty of times with no sign of struggling.  Next time I get the oppertunity I will make a run in PRIME so it does not starve.  It was still pulling pretty good when it died so I am sure it would have made it to 125mph+.

I guess this will be my first official post. I'm new to world and I'll be getting a bike fairly soon here. Take a wild guess what kind of bike it might be. So as of right now I know nothing.

Well anyway. Just wondering, but wouldn't the easy answer to this is just figure out what RPMs you are turning? I have to assume that somewhere there has to be a gear calculator somewhere for this bike. I have one for my car and I know exactly what speed I'm traveling based on RPM's and tire size. Especially for people that use different size tires, how can you be sure that the indicated speed is truely correct?

Just throwing this out. I'm only relating it to my car and maybe bikes are completely different for all I know.

Indicated speed is known to be way off for most suzuki bikes that drive the speedometer off the front wheel.  The gear calculators are available (I thnk ther is one at evilpumpkinracing.com amoung other places.  They generally ignor the fact that your tires "grow" at very high speeds - which makes them better than the speedometer - but not all that accurate.

remember it also matters on how you sit and how well maintained your bike is. also some bikes might be manufacture flukes. some may be faster than others. I have hit speeds that people would say I couldnt hit with a 15t sprocket. yet I also laydown on the bike to obtain those speeds.

Im think every bike that comes off the assembly line is a little diff, ive  had my 98 e up to about 125 down a little bit of a hill with enough road. pulls good for what it is up too about 115 then its just really slow accell after that , i think with a smaller rider and primo conditions one could get close to 130 , mine wont do it with the 15t front sproket cause its at about 10k in 6th at just under 125mph

Recently I have had mine up to 115 mph indicated.  Its acceleration slows a bit at around 105-110 mph and I'm 220 lbs and 6 ft tall.  I am fully tucked in down on the tank.

new 05 gs500f.

I posted before that I took the bike for a spin at night.

exactly at 9000rpm (didn't dare to go higher... or faster) I was doing 110-115mph (had a quick glance at speedometer only because I had to keep my eyes on the road).

im sure at 10,000rpm or higher I can kill myself easily.

I have never been to 100 on mine but I am sure it would.  60mph in 3rd no prob.   My old DR 650 would do 100 without even blinking.

110 indicated for me. That 6 miles on 295 to work will get me my first speeding ticket for sure. I want it to be a good one  :)

This was at 3AM folks. No one in my way.

i've had my stock '04 f redlined through the gears on the back straight at pocono FUSA,  i THINK i hit around 110mph.

when on the track i noticed  that when you wring this little babys' neck WFO and hit (and go past) the redline it makes this 'PHISH" sound when you upshift (i would hear that sound when i play xbox motogp2 and never knew what it was until that trackday).

i was not paying too much attention to top speed at the time, next trackday i will make a note of it.

btw - i had my gps on the other night trying out an experiment on the garden state parkway. when going 70mph indicated the gps reported 60mph. it seems the indicated is 10mph slower.
