Title: commute to work & going to hit 21,000 ahead of Davip
Post by: mp183 on July 28, 2005, 08:19:42 AM
Took the GS in to work today.
Came in early.
Guy on a loud sportsbike comes into the right lane where 4 lanes are merging.  Pleny of noise, cuts off a few cars and gets a few cars ahead of me he is in the right lane.  My left lane is moving.  He feels cheap as I pass him.  Get to the third light before the Holland Tunnel.  We are almost even again.  He cuts through traffic and gets in the far left.  He gets to the toll booth a few cars ahead.  Fumbles for change.  Now is my chance.
No need to hit the throttle, just whip out that EazyPass.
Left him in the dust.

Ah, life is good.
The best thing is that Davipu is only at 20,900+ and I'll be at 20,990 when I get home.  I'll just go a little out of my way and hit 21,000.

Road trip?
Did 1,200 miles on DL650 three weeks ago.
Last week was in Lake Placid.
Lake Placid to Ottawa, Miniwaki, Mt. Tremblant, Montreal and back to Lake Placid in one day.
Gotta change my tires on the DL so I'll favor the GS this weekend.

I have over 12,500 on the 650.

Don't get the 1000 it's heavy and has lots of issues.
Clutch basket, burping, farting due to quirks in Fuel Injection.
On the 650 you can hit 110 indicated with no effort.
It has tons of power.

How many time zones are you away from me anyway?
I should get a few more hours to pass you.

The 650 will go to an indicated 135.
up to 110 it just rolls on, you won't even know that you are going that fast.  There is no excess engine noise or vibration and the windshield works well so you get no feedback how fast you are going.
From 110 to 125 you have to work at it.
Over 125 you have to have a straight road for a little while.
It's rock steady.  Great in the rain.
Rode to Lake Placid for 3 3 1/2 hours in the rain.  For 15 minutes the cars put on their flashers and slowed to 40 mph.  The only problem is the visibility through the faced shield.
Rode in the rain from Vermont about a month ago.
Four hours of really hard rain.  Was really impressed with the bike.

If you want to go that fast get yourself a real sports bike.
Check some of the boards and learn about the "issues".
If I had the 1000 it would drive me nuts.

i want something that I can run down the 8 doing a buck 40 and find some po dunk road and go exploring,  I was out the other day playing around, and there was a bunch of signs for the great overland route of 1849,  with lots of little historical markers off in the middle of nowhare.  also i want to do a alaska trip and take like two weeks piddily dinking around up there.  the other bikes I was considering were the KTM duke II and the BMW r1150gs. although i havn't ruled out the f650gs dakar, I just really don't like the colors for this year.
