Title: Engine - Does this look ok?
Post by: themaffeo on July 28, 2005, 01:03:34 PM
Ok, since I'll be taking my bike into the shop to get it re-keyed, Should i get this fixed too?

I layed my bike down like one week after getting it, and when i saw this opening later, I assumed it was always like that - untill i saw pictuers of other bikes that looked different.  Here's a picture of my engine:

You can see a little bolt inside, and when the engine is on, you can see it spinning around.  Is that bad? Do i need a cover for it?

thnx

If i recall correctly, there should be a little suzuki emblem covering that hole. I believe someone here was selling the stamped logo's. You may also want to replace that case cover wtih a new one.

Ditto; just get the emblem, or do a Red Phil and get a bean tin lid.  :D

hehe good one,

when it comes to cosmetics and bikes, if your still learning DO NOT replace anything unless your bike depends upon its functionality, just as soon as you replace it it will get messed up again and it will hurt inside and out...

This'll work, and it'll match your bike:

For racing, i just put a piece of duct tape over the hole.

There is no oil pressure in there, but you may get oil splashing around ( not sure) so duct tape worked fine for me, and lasted a long time.
Cosmetically i would go back to the emblem.

the part is fairly inexpensive to buy....i think I bought it online for about $20....there were a bunch of Carbon Fiber covers that were made in April....but they were a special order, not likely to happen any time soon.....the Suzuki Emblem cost's about $5.....

You just want to watch that you dont break that cover, if you do you will have the fun job of fixing the ignition.

That Suzuki emblem costs $11 plus a $9 shipping charge at the cheapest online vendor I could find.  It was $25 at my local stealership.  OEM parts are ridiculously expensive.

i work at a stealership and our cost for oem parts is rediculous, what we sell oem parts to the customer for is double we pay and absurd...

whats worse than that?

kawasaki oem parts are the worst....$300 for one 636 brake rotor.... $450 for one piece of fairing on left side of the bike :?

Car dealers are no better - when I was in high school I worked at the parts counter of the local Chevy/Pontiac/Buick dealer.  For parts under $100 our cost, we marked up 300%, $100-250 got a 250% markup, and over $250 was a 200% markup.  You don't even want to guess the difference between labor rates and what the mechanics were actually paid.

All you need is a colour matching silver spray paint and it'll look like it was meant to be that way.
