Title: WTF?!! Why steal my plugs?
Post by: conflicttheorist on July 29, 2005, 12:02:06 AM
Someone stole the spark plugs out of my GS while I was parked in downtown san francisco the other night.  Why?!!!  It's so friggin senseless!!!  I had to take the subway home and then go pick up my bike.  Two hours out of my life, a bridge toll, a train ticket, and while I was supposed to be studying for the friggin bar.  Why?!!! It makes no sense!  Who?!!  Why?!!!

I just feel so damn violated.

haha...that is the funniest thing i've heard in a while.

I remember when my dads friend was in new york city...he left his car parked for 6 or 7 hours in this shady section of town. When he came back he noticed the car is up on bricks and all 4 wheels are missing.

i think in this case it was done as a prank rather than anything for profit.

Yes, that's it. There was an earlier post, possibly from NYC about plugs being stolen for crack pipes, I can't recall who it was but it may have happened twice. Only answer I can think of is to take them out and fit some kind of blank plug or old crappy ones just to plug the hole.

Scumbags everywhere, what can you say.

Always carry spares when you go into the city. This has been mentioned on BayAreaRidersForum often. Just do a search on 'crack'.

Hmm, would it be possible to use ignition coils (an extra one, not bastardizing the ones on your bike) to shock people who touched your bike?

I'm sure its illegal, and it would probably just piss people off but the thought is funny.

I thought about putting chicken wire and some high voltage, low current device (like an ignition coil) over my window when I was having some "issues" with another tennant in my building but figured it wouldn't work.

OMG! Now crack heads have learned how to use tools!!! We are screwed.

But, man that does suck. It would be sweet to catch him doing it :) KICK HIS SKULL IN ... Thump, thump :)

You made a good observation...the thief must have tools to do this AND have the right size socket to accomplish this. Wouldn't it be a lot less risky to just buy a new plug at WalMart?

My vote goes toward a biker with a perverse sense of humor. Sounds like there is a market for security plug guards in here somewhere. (I am sure Smith&Wesson or Ruger makes a nice one.   )

On the other hand, they could have just cut your plug wires and then pinched your plugs to really piss you off!  :x

Wow that really sucks that this happened to you.  I think it was a Biker having some fun with you.  Even if they were used for a crackpipe why take the time to steal both.  A crackhead would steal one and be on his way.

ive read on barf too, that you should leave your old spark plugs on the ground or on top of the bike cover sort of as a peace offering.

Buy a tool once, and you never have to buy plugs again.

I'm too lazy to read the rants, but I read one once about putting rat poison in a spark plug and swapping your real plugs with those overnight.  I'd go for that.

Wouldnt that be considered attempted murder??

1 - Rat poison usually just makes you very, very sick.  Of course, that's oral ingestion - I have no idea what it's like to mix it with crack and smoke it.

2 - That's not the intended purpose of spark plugs, and it sure as hell isn't the intended purpose of MY spark plugs.  Are you supposed to, legally, make your plugs safe for a crack smoker who might steal them?  BS.

I can often take spark plugs out with my hands and a cloth if the engine is cold.

I'm prettey sure it is attempted murder.

You could have gasoline or oil in your plugs.  Is it attempted murder to not clean them thoroughly out of consideration for the crackhead who might steal them?

To go and taint their crack stash - yes, that would be attempted murder.  I still firmly believe it is not my duty, morally or legally, to ensure that my property is in such a state that if any of it were stolen, it would cause no harm to come to the thief.

I'll just tell the crack addict with the very painful intestinal cramps that the standard plugs probably just don't agree with his system, and he should be sure to buy iridium in the future.

If you smoke a little bit of rat poison (mixed with something obviously), it will be almost like Speed. I don't know how it mixes with crack, but when mixed with pot, it will increase your heart rate RAPIDLY, and if you smoke too much of it, you could have a heart attack and possibly die. It feels like your heart is beating so hard and so fast that it is going to explode.

To my knowledge, it doesn't make you nauseous. Maybe if you eat it it would? But if they smoke it, they probably wouldn't vomit or anything like that. But it would do frocked up things to their heart. And that isn't something you wanna fool with  :thumb:

I carry spares anyway..
I always have..

Plugs are subject to failure at any time and your bike will not run on just one...

Put two gapped plugs under your seat and make sure you have the tool to replace them..

When you install your plugs, wear gloves...  No prints...  No way to trace them to your bike.  How would you ever get charged with murder?

Beyond that...   When a crackhead dies, the police don't investigate.  It's just another dead crackhead.

I've known a couple people that kept having their car stereos stolen...  So, they put razor blades on them.  Someone attempted to steal the stereo again and cut the shaZam! out of his hand.  Karma.

i wouldn't be against some device that booted them in their crackhead balls, or singed the hair off their skulls, but death for stealing $3.00 worth of spark plugs.... no good.  Unless they're mine.

No way is that attempted murder, it's a well known fact amongst the biker community that rats often try to chew the plugs and leads on bikes, Suzukis are their favourite. I'm just amazed you guys did not know that.

all I can say is I am speechless.  I know I have seen some very resourceful pot smokers but stealing the tops of spark plugs for crack pipes, rat poison indeed.
