Those things are fooking heavy. Get the R1200GS. Not much heavier than my old F650, and lotsa power.
Oh. No, wait, get the HP2.

Actually, he might be on to something.
If we take turns sending each other $6, then eventually we'd all have new rides.
We could do it based upon seniority with a bonus for need. Submit essays and have John decide who goes next.
I read an article on the HP2, has alot of nuts.
Problem is the weight. My CR250R weighs very little at about 210 lbs.
A friend of mine has a yamaha XT650 enduro dirtbike, that weighs 390 ish lbs. It's WAY too heavy to trailride efficiently.
Weight is relative. I've seen people do some crazy-ass offroad sheoot on first-gen F650s, which weigh almost 500lbs, and second-gen, which are still pushing 400. Many folk have done the Dakar rally on F650GSs, which is not a walk in the park by a long shot. The HP2 is lighter than any of the F650s, and much more powerful. Winning the Rodeo is only going to help with the offroad credentials.

That's a nice idea, but it has one fatal flaw - we're all cheap bastards.
Yeah. I guess what we should do is have a random drawing. More of a raffle. Everyone enters by sending $30 to a paypal account. Then 5 members are drawn at random by John. Then the money is divided evenly between the winners.
Simple. Only those that have already paid their entry fees get a shot.
I like it.
Dakar is an endurance race, I'm talking about trials sort of stuff
ugh..
there's better dual sports/supermoto's out there than that, for way less than $15k
I'm looking for a ultra long distance enduro style touring bike, something that can go 20,000 miles without engine service. and from what I've found only BMW builds that kind of reliability into thier bikes. if KTM had some dealers in the states then I'd be thinking about one of thier bikes.
I'd get an F before an R, then. It's a well-proven rock-solid Rotax engine. If money had been no object, I would have gotten the F650CS instead of the Breva.
and the boxer twins aren't reliable?
More finicky, from what I hear. Take that from someone who's never had a boxer, though, just two F singles.
However, you also have to look at the other systems on the bike. For instance, I'm not sure if the GS has servo-assisted brakes - the other R bikes do - but they're at least partially linked, and I don't like that many systems to muck with my braking. The F650GS has switchable ABS, but it's a straightforward system, and can be self-serviced.
it's all just a bunch of hibbidy hoopla, now give me the 6 bucks.
I have a better plan. Send the $6 to me, and I'll put it towards a very good cause - a Dainese YoYo.
