Title: California model?
Post by: Thor S Magic Bathtub on August 01, 2005, 11:41:12 PM
I'm just wondering if anybody out there knows an easy way to find out if my 96 E is a Cali model...
Sorry if this question has been asked a million times, but my poor little modem can only handle so much searching.

I don't see anything on the VIN or engnine number that would tell me either way.
I'm just wondering cause I bought it from a guy in Cali, but it's had at least one other owner...

My VIN starts with VTTGM51A and is a CA model. The rest of the VINs I've seen are JS1GM51A.

I'm not sure whether the difference is because of the 500e and 500f models (I've got an F), or because I have a CA model.

the big obvious difference on the cali ones is the inclusion of a evap can on the carb vent.

Evap can is a dead give away.

Mine's a CA model and it has the JS1GM51a vin.

The evap/charcoal canister is located underneath the battery.

Another way, since I think alot of people remove the evap stuff is to check the ignition rotor. The CA model has different numbers than the others stamped onto the rotor... what are the numbers... well...  :dunno:   But I bet someone here has the info.
