Title: GSXR can
Post by: jakkyl on August 02, 2005, 11:38:05 AM
Just got an 05 GSXR 600 can.  I was wondering if anyone had any pics of it installed and how it was done.  Mostly curious about the positioning and the flange (where you got it or what you made it out of).  I've got a welder, I'm just new to 'fabrication'.

I wonder if you knew what you were doing, if you could look at one of Srinath's flanges and make one of your own like it?  :dunno:

Get a square plate and drill matching holes to the can, punch out a huge ass like 2 inch hole for the pipe, then bend up pipe that will fit over your header and slide into the can, put it on the bike, bolt it on, and tack the plate to the pipe. Then take it off and weld it up. Easy ... did it over 100 times ...   only burned up like 4-5 ...
Cool.
Srinath.

Someone has a GSXR can on their bike. It's red... I wanna say Goat? I dunno... But there's pics in the wall of fame.

Found it... but it doesn't say who's it is...

That's GUR's.   I sent him a PM but he has yet to answer...   :dunno:

Srinath, sounds good.  About what thickness plate do you use?  And to punch the hole, do you use a drill with a holesaw attachment?  Thats what I was planning....  Or is there another way?

  That's more of a drive than I'd car to take, even though it's only a couple hours.  Besides, I'd rather do it myself so I can say that I did...  :nana:  Just need a little nudge in the right direction... :thumb:

I used a torch, and 1/4 inch ... WTF is this for a boiler plate on the USS Illinois ... 1/8th is plenty ... OK whatever you get your hands on. If you must use a holesaw ... I can send some 1/8th (more like 7 guage) SS plate your way ... Yea... forget it. $1 or so postage ... not worth it.
Cool.
Srinath.

heres a question: does changing to a gsxr can change the sound any? like more of a sporty sound instead of the stock or vance & hince sound ?

Qiuck question:  If I were to get a can from say yosh or v&h for a gsxr600 and build a flange and mate them, would it work.  That is will the gsxr600 can work well on my gs500?
By the way i have a 2005 gs500f.  Any help is greatly appreciated.
