Title: opinions on a bike...
Post by: cheesy on August 02, 2005, 01:49:08 PM
2001 cbr600f4i, 12k miles
slight scratches on tail section from drop in garage. has frame sliders, k&n filter, upgraded brake lines, two bros exhaust, tires have 1k-2k left in them.  wired for track use (has had 3-4 trackdays, never dropped). clean, clear title.

The guy wants $4000... seem like it's worth taking? The only thing that kind of worries me is the track stuff... but he seemed really honest about it... he said at most 4 track day uses and he drove it hard on the street but wasn't seeing redline at every light or anything.. mainly just twisty stuff...

Don't know about that, I looked into it at Talladega and it was a requirement.  Depends on the track.

Ja, NESBA requires it for the advanced track group.  Some people do it if they have buzzy bikes (my thumper Aprilia was safety-wired).

So there's a difference between a track bike and a race bike? What do you do at the track if you're not racing?  :dunno:

Title: Dream
Post by: The Buddha on August 03, 2005, 11:05:59 AM
Yea 5K is a dream price ... go down there with cash and bite his head off till he goes Aaaaaaah and hands it over for what you want to get it for ...    ...
Yea I say it ... but I am a very very poor negotiator ... I totally rub people the wrong way and end up getting kicked out of their driveway ... of course they wont hesitate to call me when the aforementioned POS I warned them about ends up busting 30 miles from home at midnight in pouring rain ... What i am good at ... Buying cheap ass crap and working on it till it shines ... like a turd encrusted with diamonds   .
Cool.

Lapping.

Tracking and racing are worlds apart.

Yeah your racing the clock and yourself.  If an inexperianced rider is racing others and trying to keep up with faster riders, we all know what can happen.  At track days you'll see guys on little bikes lapping the guys on much bigger bikes.

I don't think a wired bike is a selling point, but that alone would not keep me from buying the bike if everything else checks out.

Lapping is 10/10ths; racing is 12/10ths.

My TLR was safety wired, never raced and seen the track once. Not an issue with selling it. I did the wiring. It would not pass to race but the major important items were secured....oil filter, drain plug, filler cap, calipers, front axle bolts, and a few more. Ever been behind a bike on the street that had an oil filter come loose? I have and it really sucks!

Why is every one scared of track/race bikes? :dunno:

I would be more concerned if it was stunted. More wear and damaged will occur from showing off than being on the track.

Especially because most of the Show off's are also moron's ...    ... racers are not. True racers are much better at taking care of their stuff ... they know preventive maintenance is the key to saving $$ as well as making the weekends more worthwhile.

Ja, I'd rather buy a race/track bike than one that's been sitting.  The former will tend to get meticulous maintenance.

But a race bike will have been hammered a lot more than a track bike.

The problem is that a lot of bikes used for stunting probably don't show a lot of signs of their abuse. Of course a 12 0'clock bar would be a hint, but some things like frame sliders are used by even normal riders.

I guess you can make your call based on the seller. If you ask him to bring the bike to your house for a test ride and he rolls by like this:

RUN!!!

Yea sitting is horrible yea ... but in a sense its over rated. I have brought back one after 5 years of sitting and the usual carbs and minor other crap later its good as new. But the crabs were so gummed up, I ripped a float needle and broke the float in the process of cleaning it. Luckily I shoe horned a GS550 float needle and float in it and its great.
Cool.

Last night a chick pulled up to where the ex and I were having beers on a Yamaha FZ1. The only reason I knew what it was is because she pulled up at such an angle and in such lighting that I couldn't exactly tell what it was and asked if it was a V-Strom. She corrected me on what it was, and I took a look-see and it was really nice. It made her look much hotter, by the way. I don't know shiat about these, but they are cool looking and sound sweet. It was the exact same as this one:

It took me a sec to realize that you two weren't drinking while sitting on an FZ1.

I realized that it read that way when I finished the sentence, but I am lazy and opted to let the reader figure it out  :thumb:
I would love to sit on an FZ1 and I love to drink, but the mixture sounds dangerous.

Huuuuuuh Huuuuuuh ..... Kabooom .....
Yea that was my heart ... :guns:  ...
TL/S and the R had the same shock (rotary/separate spring), and you can shoehorn the GSXR 750 88-95 one in there I have heard ... though I dont think that rotary is that bad, someone told me they will never blow ... cos the seals dry up from sitting usually ... but in that they're sitting in oil all the time. Rear shocks can blow albeit they have much lower failure numbers than fronts.
Cool.

I bought a TL two weeks ago.

Continuing the twin thing, except at 90 degrees.

Still keeping my GS.

So much torque. Just leave it in Sixth & the bike becomes
an automatic on the Highway.
