Title: Night blindness?
Post by: Maduro Mistress on August 04, 2005, 05:53:13 AM
Silly thing I noticed last night while in my car (hark, yes, I know - but I figured if I don't take it out at least once every 2 weeks it may stop running altogether!) So anyway, I have been thinking about this lately - I just can't seem to see the road at night now unless I'm on my bike. I find myself turning on my high beams in my car constantly just so I can see. Is this something anyone else has found, or do I just need to put really bright bulbs in my car headlights to match my bike?

hmmm,

i ride with the mindset that i am invisible, anything i can do to make them more aware of me i will do (without looking like a geek: reflective vest for example).

on the bike my hi beams are on 99.999% of the time. only when i feel guitly by blinding the guy i'm following is when i switch to low (very rare).

when driving my 4x4 truck, it sits high so i'm perched up there just like the bike and see better than most anyways.

maybe you can eat more carrots to help with the night blindness.

When I was taking my physical for flight school, they had a test for ability to see in the dark.  So yes, some people see in the dark better than others, it is a documented medical condition.  If you think brighter bulbs will help, get some instead of using high beams.

You turn them off for oncoming cars, right?!  I really don't think it helps much to blind oncoming traffic.

Yes.  High beams aren't just bright - they're aimed high, and are a Really Bad Thing for people coming the opposite way.

... and if you blind someone, you become invisible to them, which is what we're trying to avoid, right?

(just a friendly reminder from a halogen hater)

When was the last time you cleaned the windshield?

The lights in my Exploder suck too...  But, it's about 1,000x worse when the windshield is dirty.

A few years ago I felt my sight diminished during night driving, so I took daily a Vitamin A pill, 3 or 4 months later I simply realized I could see much better during night. Clean headlight lens to take advantage of the light, also check lightbeam alignment, proper alignment helps a lot, and last but not least, driving your car instead of riding the bike could set you on a diferent psycological or awarness stage, perhaps it's just the reduced view angle and not the light... and just in case, clean up the car's winshield.

also, if your light covers have that sun faded dull look to them that can cause problems too.....
