...i have been having problems keeping tension on this stock perch, and today, it wiggled loose while i was pulling into home. i have decided i am going to put on an msr raptor shorty perch/gripper lever (http://www.faster-motocross.com/msr-raptor-adjustable-clutch-lever-assembly.html) but what is the wire coming off of the clutch lever, and what does it do? i imagine i would be losing it, and want to know how important it is before i trash this stock perch.
has anyone done this mod before?
You would have to bridge the switch. It is a safety feature so the clutch has to be pulled to start the bike. They are removed on my race bikes. If you want to keep the switch, change it to a GSXR clutch.

well,i'm on my way to pick up my perch then...i never needed to pull the clutch to start the bike anyway  :dunno:
oh yeah...where does it connect to so i can take it off?

If the switch has already been disabled, then what do you have to take off?
I think he's asking where to put the wire that leads to the switch, in which case I would say to roll it up into the headlamp shell.
OK I want it ... clutch perch off a GS is a beauty to slap on a Yamaha Maxim ... or virago ... I tossed the buckhorn's on my old 535 for dirt bike bars and the mirror angle was waaaay off .. same with the max ... BTW its a travesty ... that yamaha has left threads in its right mirrors ... so I believe the yamaha tear drops are the best made and best looking mirrors out there ... In any case the left is same for all ... so a GS perch and lever on a Max is a beauty ...
Cool.

Not true! It is a blessing to only have your mirror come
loose instead of destroying the threads or the perch where the mirror once stood! I wish all manufacturers were as thoughtful.

So's their turnsignals...(see avatar <--)

I have to disagree... I think the Breva has the best-looking stock turn signals of all of the bikes I've seen thus far. Very subtle drop-shaped signals, but bright enough to be visible to those behind.
Would those turnsignals look good on your GS? Front and rear?
I think they would, but I'm too lazy and cheap to change my GS stockers. I don't even know if they're compatible, wiring-wise.
well I like the yamaha T/S'es too ... especially the old cruiser ones ... mainly cos you can buy the rubber bushings separately ... $8 each ... whooo hooo ...
The disadvantage is ... they are $$$ to buy whole, and the ones I have have like 3 feet of wire and how the hell do you get that sleeve on them ... and if you had to splice/solder ... forget it. If I break the stem, I'll buy a stem, if I break the whole thing ... I'll swap it for GS and splice into the thing and use a bullet connector set ... But ... GS stuff is good IMHO ...
:guns: :guns: Roadstergal ... :guns: :guns: Breva ... Yamaha FZ1 ones are nice too ...
Cool.

Couldn't you just put a thin piece of rubber between the bar and the lever clamp? That would stop it from sliding around, and it would save you the money for a new perch.
Pipe tape, maybe? Or, electrical tape.
i was talking about tension on the cable. i was going to put the new perch on, but it was a little more involved then i wanted to tackle in this 100 degree heat. btw, my stock perch is pretty much trashed. the threading is pretty much all stripped out.
The threads ... I may have somehting that might gve you a way around it ... some dirt bikes had larger fittings ... made of aluminium ... but used the same size cables ... get that and tap yours to a larger dia ... Done that ... worked great ... for 10 years till I sold the bike ... :x
Cool.
