2005 zx6r 636
2005 gsxr 750
2005 R6
2002-2003 R1
Other
basically.. I can borrow <$9k for a bike.. pick one. So far I'm leaning towards a 2005 R6... seems like many on r1-forums.com end up wanting R6's...
1. GSX-R 750
2. 636
others:
3. Daytona 650
4. GSX-R 600 (hey it's $8300, so you can buy $700 worth of accessories and gear)
5. CBR600rr
....sorry, nothing personal against the Yamaha's, they're just not my style....
oh yeah....and of course SV1000S......or it's baby bro the 650 and then you can have lots o' dough for tons of fun stuff....
....oh and speaking of SV's.....here's a couple o' decent deals on a 1ks.....
$3700 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2003-Suzuki-SV1000N-silver-with-1722-miles_W0QQitemZ4566642420QQcategoryZ50034QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
$4700 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-sv1000s-sport-Bike_W0QQitemZ4565911852QQcategoryZ50034QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)
Out of the ones you listed first, I'd probably pick the GSX-R 750
Yeow ... bad to worse ... cheap crap (ok cheapish crap) to expensive crap.
If I had to buy new - B12, CB919, FZ1, ZRX1200 in that order.
If I had to buy old - TL/S/R, CBR900RR 95-99 (pre 929), F3, VFR 750.
The TL is one the last motors built with an idea to live 100K+ IMHO OK SV too. The rest all perform and perish. Yea R1's and 96-99 GSXR 7/6's and the 96-99 ZX6/7's all do manage a decent life span ... but IMHO ... that wasn't the real goal. Post 2000-01 they all went fragile ...
Cool.
Srinath.
What use will you be putting it to?
Quote from: RoadstergalWhat use will you be putting it to?
Yea ... he's be giving it to me ... ... whihc is why I want a B12 ...
Cool.
Srinath.
For me, I would pick R6
Is it going to be for a track bike or joy rider or transport? What are you going to do with it?
These are the bikes that I am going to look into this spring. I want something that would be more comfortible for riding a little distance and for a passenger. Plus have a little git up an go and handles better than a cruiser and weighs less than 500 lbs.
FZ6 (http://www.sportrider.com/bikes/146_0402_yama/)
Z750S (http://www.kawasaki.com/product_detail.asp?product=16&category=2&tag=motorcycle)
GSX750F (http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GSX750FK5/Default.aspx)
GSF1200s (http://www.suzukicycles.com/Products/GSF1200SK5/Default.aspx) I don't like this color though.
its going to be actually used for about 60% commuting 40% twisties
I want something good for curves though
also.. what makes the sv engines built to run longer?

SV650 or 650S. The ones you listed will have 80-95% of their potential wasted on the street (as opposed to an SV, where it's more like 60-65% :P ).
okay the local dealer has an sv1000 for $7892 out the door.. does that sound good?
If that's last year's model, I'd hold out for more off. But compare 1000 to 650; if twisties are in the mix, you'll want the one with better handling.

The time period it was designed ... 96-98 for most manufacturers was when the hard core sportbikes started being toys and stopped being real world bikes. The first shot was I believe fired by Yamaha with that first gen R6 ... paper thin pressed tin foil frame, and everyhting else was worse. It survives a 15,500 (then) rpm red line by being super light in the valve train and crank and rods. Yea I do believe it can be nursed to a good high miles and many may years, but get real, a small drop, a little impact with curbs/sidewalks, other objects in the road etc ... will make the thing break like a potato chip ... 96 was new enough to have good modern tech etc but still old enough to not have this philosophy at the core of the design. They knew quite well the target market (US) has 99.99% of the bikes never see 10K before the warranty is out, and hence they didn't plan on it lasting any longer. Yes there are exceptions ... and not all models from all manufacturers are that way, and in europe many of the big sellers aren't the R6's or R1's ... the YZF600's and the SV's and that genre still outsell the hard core ... Get somehting that was designed before 1996-97 ... Just what I think, and have seen. The first gen R1 was great, F4's were good too but they come from honda's I have no frame era ... so I'd go to an F3 ... The rest ... older = better.
Cool.

OK good choice ... I'll check my dealer and PM'ya ... but I believe list was 5999 for the non s, and 6399 for the s, so what is that when it turns into OTD. ... OK call these guys ... 704 394 6666. Team charlotte and ask them about it. Also call Excel - I'll send you the #.
Cool.
Srinath.
IIRC, MSRP was $7999 for the 1000 non-S, but that was last year...
Charlotte Honda

Theres an 03 used Z1000 at my local dealer for 5 grand, 8k on it.
I want so bad
EDIT: But I'm not going to get it because I need a bunch of MX gear so I can introduce myself to the local MX track :)
GSXR750
if you are going to carry someone on the back. Every bit of cc's counts.
But, I am a tall and heavy guy. I like the leg room, and the grunt.
The 636. Easy.
gr...
excel wants about $8300 OTD on an 05
he's got an 03 silver w/ 2100 miles for $6k
this is for an sv1000s
and btw
I talked to team charlotte motorsports and the guy was a total jerk.. his name was matt... basically told me I'm not doing good business by making a deal over the phone.. I was like dude... I'm in atlanta. I'm not driving to charlotte to find your OTD price.. He said $7600-$7700 but that might change. whatever

OK Matt ... lemme see who that is. I only dealt with parts counter guys ... The sales guy ... only one I know was called Tee or Tea, or T ... OK fine lets try this ... call team charlotte again and ask Honda sales ... ask for Russ Shoup. Now I am not sure if he can sell suzi's ... they have 2 businesses owned by the same guy next door to each other ... The Honda one just has honda. The other one has all the rest. Russ is my neighbor's friend and lives 1/2 block down from me ... but he may not be able to sell SV ... not sure.
Lemme check on Matt tomorrow ... might be new. And lemme also check if the parts guys will be able to sell bikes ... then you'd want David.
Cool.
Srinath.
Yea Ok here is scoop ...
Matt is a new guy, and my sales counter dude said yea he's a duck head...
Mike Jeris at the same place has been told of you ... The parts sales guy is Vince. Mike might not know me ... but Vince. david, byron all parts guys basically ... know me well. Russ cant sell Suzuki Inventory and parts guys cant sell bikes either. But You'd want to talke to Mike Jeris, Tee is at a different store now, and Jeff is the manager for sales. That's the low down. I can eyeball it tomorrow and have a better idea of posted deals etc ... I am surprised Excel wasn't the best $$ ... but its a close race between them usually ...
Cool.
Srinath.
screw team. Steve at excel was awesome. Only problem is he literally can't match the dealer price here. He pays $7300 for an 04/05 sv1ks.. He'll sell it to me for $7800.. my local place can do $7700..
Lemme do a walk in on the Team charlotte place tommorow, I remember seeing 04's with 5999 and 6399 list ... now from that to OTD ... what is the add on's ?? Buying in Charlotte will you get away from the other crap like sales tax and registration and tags and let you do it in GA or ... they make you pay twice :o ...
Cool.
Srinath.

eh i have to pay taxes on it.. and a $20 title fee.. that's it.
Yeah check it out.. I'm willing to drive up there to pick it up
and 'ideally' i'd like an 04 silver or 03 blue.
OK so Steve had an 03 silver ... you tink that's worth a shot ... 6K OTD ?? Actually there is a TL in blue with private guy 2001 If I remmember by my friends (Robert - you remember) house ... If its still there. No ... OK SV 1000 then.
Cool.
Srinath.
my list:
1. GSX-R750
2. R6
3. Triumph Speed Triple ( $$ $$)
4. Honda 919
Do your research. Find out what you really want before you plunk your money down. The SV1000 wasn't even on your list fer cryin out loud.

is it a TLR?
1. R6
2. 636

It was a blue TL/S ... yea I know it looks like a giant boob with 3/4 ton of silicone  ... OK fine.
Cool.
Srinath.
Too bad you are not in Ohio. Brand new leftover 2003 SV1000s I think the guy told me around 6700 OTD?
http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/mcy/88888689.html
3900 for 900RR ... man old school just speaks to me ... Fine SV 1K is oldish school ...
Cool.
Srinath.
I'm not going to lie... I own a 636 and its pretty sweet...almost time to install that slipper clutch
oh edit:
636 has best MSRP bang for the buck...
OK You the right ... the sales clowns were Jerk asses ... makes me wonder how they stay in biz ... and yea then I rememeber Team guys own 4 bike dealerships, there are only 2 others left whihc are in the charlotte area ... they can be jerks ... they have a monopoly, and that eases up pressure on Steve and Harold (other dealer called the Bike Corral) so while they are nice guys they dont feel like they have to kill themselves over the deal ... they sell for 200 under these jerks and they cant keep them in stock. Anyway ...
04 SV/s in blue - 6999 list.
03 silver SV/s - 7399.
Red and black 05 SV/S - 8599.
And they have B12's, B12's, and more B12's ... 01, 02 all for 5199.
What was that whole Ohio thing working to ... 500 or so miles one way ??? worth it??
Cool.
Srinath.
ohio is kind of far.. not only that but i dont want to break it in on the highway... and dont wanna trailer all the way up there
im still eyeing the 00-03 R1's... any preference? Are the older bodystyle better? I like the look of the 02-03... they're all just $$$$$
I've had three people tell me the R1's are more comfy than the svs... and more reliable
also... that 04 in blue.. $7000... why so cheap? Where is that? Steve said he could do like 7700-7800ish.. cause he PAYS 7300 for the bike.. so he's gotta make a buck somehow
Just cuz he SAYS he pays 7300 doesn't make it true! ;)
pandy

Ok that's possibly true ... but steve is a rather straight forward guy ... I go there all the time and he pretty much knows I'd never buy a bike from him ... cos I wont buy new ... I help him sell old and new bikes just by virtue of educating the buyer ... and comming from a non sales guy it carries more weight ... heck I sold that blue 04GS almost single handedly ... 2 mins of listening to me about my 89 and he was done ... great I want this ... Now maybe dealers have some sorta hold back money types, so they get it end of year ?? ... and OK I thought 6700 in OH was OTD ... Not ?? ... Blazinjr ???
Yea and the parts sales guys were morons too ... but they have been bashed in the head so much by moi ... they usually stand back and let me do my thing. They've figured out I am usually right, and if not I own up to my mistakes and dont try to pass it back on to them ...
So you think 7K is reasonable on the 04 ... want a pic ?? ... I can get one tommorow ... they are like 5 mins away ...
And no B12 ... :dunno: ... OK ... bwwwwaaaa .... bwwwwaaaa ... OK.
BTW Stk number for it is 106388, the 03 silver is 102381.
Cool.
Srinath.

Yea call this guy and ask him if he sell the TL ... its got a black frame ... whoo hooo ... ... that GSXR looks like its been to hell and back ... OK atleast its back ...
Cool.
Srinath.
My choices 8)
SV1000S
(http://www.suzukicycles.com/images/gallery/SV1000SK5/photos/SV1000K5.jpg)
RC51
(http://powersports.honda.com/assets/images/model/model_hero_shot/Motorcycles/2005/large/RC51.jpg)
I am going with the SV but damn if the RC51 was more comfy, lighter, and $3,000 cheaper I would jump all over it.

IMO the red 05 ZX-6R is one sexah mofo.

The local dealer got tired of me coming in every week and sitting on it for 20 minutes so they sold my bike. :(
I'm also pretty hot for Ducati 749s but afraid of the up keep costs on the Ducs I keep reading about.
well I want a bike that's built well...
and 02-03 R1 is the same cost as an sv1ks..
Quote from: cheesywell I want a bike that's built well...

Who said the SV is not well built? :dunno: Seems pretty reliable from all I have researched. The R1 will almost definately have a higher insurance rate I would think so how would that offset the cost? I'm sure there are some 2005 SV1000S out there for 7,000$ out the door. Someone on SVRider got an 05 with lowers for that OTD brand new. Good luck whatever you decide
