Title: Leather for women - Dainese Yoyo
Post by: Roadstergal on August 04, 2005, 11:00:32 PM
Since I'm getting more into the track/go-fast kind of thing, I wanted a better-fitting set of leathers, and after looking into it more, I decided I wanted a one-piece.  Well, there is only one currently-made noncustom women's one-piece, the Dainese Yoyo.  It sure as heck isn't cheap.  But after trying it on, I went ahead with it anyway.  It's very well made, from materials to stitching to zippers to velcro, etc.  It fits like a glove, which means a boogie-wiggle in and a boogie-wiggle out.  Shoulder, forearm, knee and shin armor.  Speed hump and knee pucks for when I get better.  The legs and arms were too long when I was just standing, but once I sat on the 749 Dark they had sitting in the showroom (hey, my birthday's coming up!), it fit perfectly.  It's made for riding.

The one thing that bugs me is that with the shin armor in, I can't get my SMX-3 fastened, and with the armor out, I'm ditching the nice knee protection as well as the shin armor.  Any ideas?

I also picked up a Wave back protector.  Another thing I didn't expect to find in my size, but it fits well, not too long like most protectors.  Shoulder straps and a kidney belt on that one.  It gives me a bit of a Hunchback of Notre Dame look along with the hump.

Stiffer than bejeezus at first, but it's starting to break in.  And when it's 90+ outside, it's pretty hot unless you hang off at a good rate of speed.

Again, it's pricy, but if you want something that's well-made and fits, there you are.

You'd think they'd give me money for as often as I've pimped their helmets.

Hey, at least you found something that fits you -- at 6'4" and carrying a 36" inseam, I'm having a dickins of a time finding enough kangaroo skin to cover my frame, let alone just my lower half.

I'm also in the middle of nowhere, motorcycle gear-wise.  Makes it tough to find equipment to try-on.

How did you "track" down your suit?  (pardon the pun...)  ;)

You can't get your boots fastened around the legs of the suit when you have the shin armor in?  I guess you could drop another couple of hundred bucks and get a set of race boots with replaceable shin plates, but since you probably just spent close to 10 bills on those leathers I dunno if you'd want to do that.

What gloves are those you're sporting?  Also, what's goin on with the crotchal area of those leathers, looks like you're sporting something else down there  :?

I think it is a shadow artifact enhanced by the pattern of the suit.

Snazzy skin RG!  :thumb:

"Boogie-wiggle"....

I thought maybe it was some sort of armor in the crotch of the suit, but I haven't seen any suits with that in them (I've been shopping for a 2-piece set lately)

I hear that... I don't consider Kitchener/Waterloo to be rural (pop. 250,000), but you still won't find a decent selection of gear (in your size) to try on and compare.  Sigh.   :(

Hey Roadstergal.... cool suit   :thumb:

  I just hunted online.

Joe Rocket Speedmaster, last year's model.

It's shadows (bright evening sun) and the stiffness of the suit; the belly and crotchal areas still haven't settled in, so to speak.

And danke to the positive comments; me likey the suit.  :)

HAHA. RoadsterGal shoulda saw this coming. I suppose it IS a valid question though, looks awful snug to wear jeans under there. But then again, I know nothing about wearing full leathers, either.

By the way, they do look good on you RG.  :thumb:

Do you find your legs get sweaty? I've found that if I don't wear tights, capris, or something underneath my gear, my legs get sweaty and I have a hard time getting the gear off! Any tips or tricks appreciated!

teknic and a* and a few other manufacturers make a bodysuit sort of deal that fits under the leathers.  they're made of a wicking fabric (like underarmor brand workout clothes) to help keep you cool.

I've read on another forum that using baby powder or gold bond powder can help with the stickyness too - I'd wager it helps keep the leathers from getting too gamey also.

RG, is that suit cow or kangaroo?

My back is where the sweat goes... the rest of me tends not to sweat much.  So ja, I'd go with what Jazzz recommended.

It's cow.

I've been having a hard time finding just a jacket for my wife.  I think it's safe to assume that cheap+women's leathers just doesn't happen.  The few companies that make XS women's jackets sure aren't sending any to Newenough.

Nice!  :thumb: Good pic too!

I love Dainese stuff. It always seems to fit really well. I own a full body pressure suit for racing and it blew itself apart during a nasty wreck I had. I was badly bruised, the suit destroyed, BUT only my left big toe broken! I was super thankful to be wearing such awesome protection.

The bike didn't turn out as well...

We had a heck of a time finding a jacket for my wife.  Ended up with the Teknic Venom.  She's very pleased with it.  Goes all the way down to a size 4 I think.

I saw the price of those leathers recently in a magazine.  For probably around the same price one could get a custom set of Barnacle Bill leathers.   www.racingleather.com

Greg has a BB custom set now.  The leather is way comfy.  No break-in period necessary it seems.

Hmm, I'd be interested in seeing what the price of custom comes out to be once you've outfitted it to the same level as these...

Regardless, they were here and they fit, and that works for me.

And I've been breaking them in by practicing hanging off.   :P

Amazing pic R'gal. This leaves that pic of 2 guys wrestling a bear in a BMW kalahari suit looking like a amateur's training pic ...

and you might want to adjust those rear sets on the jeep so you can get some more clearance.
