Title: new to my GS, quick question
Post by: natecoop on August 06, 2005, 06:31:41 PM
i was wondering how inter-changeable the parts are on the GS.   i was looking at a a couple of things on ebay and the item descriptions stated "fits other years".

so my question is what year models can i look for to fit my '92 - for example for an exhaust or a gas tank...

exaust 89-05 are idenical  gas tanks 89-00 are just different colurs, 01-05 are different colurs,  cali models do not include the head space in the tank as part of the fuel capicity, hence the lower rating. the 49 state models do, so to get it really full you need to rock the bike and get the fuel sloshing back and forth to get it above the level of the filler neck.

Strap some 1/4 inch plastic tubes over the front fender.

Pop a generic fender on it and sit back and contemplate how to cut it to make it unique and original.

Have your dad yell at you about how the bike/parts need to be out to powder coating withing 23 hours.

Get in a giant argument with Pops about how design takes time.

Wait for pops to semi-agree but go off on about how you always show up late for work and set a bad example for the other employees and how you are on such a tight deadline.

Start saying you do more here than he does.

Patiently wait for the 20 minute speel about how he does more and you will never comprehend how much he does.

Call Vinny over and ask for some input on whether you think your design kicks ass.

Once Vinny agrees have him cut some "bling" pieces out on the water jet thingy.

20 Hours in ask pops what he thinks.

After he says it looks awesome prep for the bit where he jumps down everyone's throat about how "what a mess" the shop is.

Clean up the mess and weight for the fender to get back from painter.

Install it and realize it is perfect.

*edited for a big case of drunkne spleling errosr, note, I ddin't get thme lla.*

89-00 are almost all the same. there were some minor differences. I know 96(?) saw a change in the front calipers and there were a few other changes in the 89-00 model run. 01-05 bodywork is the same, but different than 89-00 and wont swap directly over. CA tanks also have additional nipples on bottom for evap vent or some such. Wheels all the same. motors too. forks too. majority of parts swap easily. But why dont you tell us what you were looking for and we'd be able to tell you for sure?

I'm listening (and interested) too.  It would be nice to have an exhaust on my stand-mounted engine for when I eventually fire it up ... and/or to have a nice one to put on my bike while I take my time sandblasting/repainting the original unit.

Is anyone else offering?  I guess I'd better create a thread in the For Sale forum.

isnt the Wileyco a slip on? I'm betting natecoop needs the full system so if you put on a slip on you'd still be using your headers, no?
