You first fill your forks with used engine oil..
You then use the Jack from your Dodge Ram 1500 to compress your fork squarely against the front of your brick house..
You will know it worked when you hear the loud BOOM sound and the rubber fork seal comes flying up out of the fork tube..
Works like a CHAMP!!!!! :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

you know, there's something about purposely blowing the seal out that seems really stupid to me, but I suppose if you wrapped a rag around the tube you could easily do it with a good ratchet strap too. on a side note, you still need to remove the circlip inside below the dust cover.
It wasn't a good seal..
It leaked..
The purpose was to change them to new ones..
Yea I also know of people that put 30Psi air in and bump it a few times and out it comes ... On bikes that are so equipped ... however what are you trying to accomplish ... taking them apart and cleaning them is more important than the easy way of taking it out ... and once you have the damping rod un bolted etc ... it will come out by hand ...

Well that wont do ... really ... no substitute for taking it apart and cleaning everything ... but fine if you must ... maybe use some sorta parts washer contraption (has to be rubber and plastic safe) and send it in the top maybe and out the bottom ... I dunno ... just swapping the seal isn't everything ... you're putting 90% of the effort and possibly leaving a ton of muck in the thing ... take one apart and you'll know ... It will be filled with black and grey goo ... condensation, traces of rust, bits of plastic and rubber ... as well as teflon on the bushings need to be examined ...

yeah, pulling them apart also gives you the chance to check the bushings. These would be the OTHER parts that wear out or get damaged. dont get me wrong, i loved the idea on how you did it. but it also poses the issue of all that used motor oil spilling everywhere, or the fact it could end up squirting in your eyes, up the walls, all over you or how about someone walking up? i would also hope you didnt stress out the axle BOSS in the bottom of the leg, if that should crack, you could be in trouble. BTW, if you did, i have another lower.
as stated good show using hydromechanic principles to work for you. but must give you a 3 for not thinking through it more then just popping the seal.
