Title: What is the Absolute best jet set-up for 2001-up?
Post by: BigTwin on August 09, 2005, 09:07:19 AM
I've searched and found mixed reviews about jetting the 2001-up GS500(F).

After fixing up my bike it will have a full Jardine/Vance and Hines pipe, Bob B Advancer, and Lunchbox or Pod Filters (which is the best of the 2).

I live in Ohio, don't know if weather plays a role though.

I want smooth power throughout all rpm's (no flat spots), quick warm-up times (minimal/no use of choke, not sure if possible though), and faster.

THANKS, Carb NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOB -BigTwin-

Do you have to use the choke for long?

And what would be the difference between your setup and the one pantablo recommends:

Pilot #20 bleed type
Small Main #67.5 round slotted
Large Main #147.5 round slotted

And what do you do about the mixture screw (or whatever screw has to be a certain # of turns out)? And what about the washers?

I'm a complete IDIOT with carbs, so please forgive my ignorance. Where is the screw and what jet gets the washers?

THANKS, BigTwin

I took mine to a shop to be jetted and dyno tuned. If you don't want to mess with it, take it to extreme down on refugee/104/frank road.. I think it cost me like $130 or $160... something like that (brought my own jets). They do a before and after dyno run and they have some gizmo that will tell you if you're running lean or rich.

I can PM you the number and the guys name if you're interested.

that's for a different setup...with KN dropin filter i believe...

mine gives LOTS of power and no dead spots...pulls much much harder in 6th on hwy speed...even with stock gearing...

god i dont remember what my jetting is.
But I think i need to shim the needles up one. I got a little 'staggering' at higher speed. I dont know if i got 145 or 147.5 on there.

My signature.. not sure if that's the correct one.

I wanna say ... I am not sure I deserve the best ... Like when the doctor said ... The best thing for you is to stop eating junk food, stop drinking, stop waking/sleeping weird hours, stop drinking espresso, get good exercise and stop riding the bike. I went ... I've been so bad all these years, I am not sure I deserve the best ...
Cool.

What is the best of the ones listed above to be running with a full exhaust and pod/lunchbox filter? (what's the difference, never seen either of them?)

I just really want it to run smooth and require little to no choke.

Pilot #20 bleed type
Small Main #67.5 round slotted
Large Main #147.5 round slotted
Uni pod filters
Vance & Hines Super Sport Exhaust
V&H timing advancer

This is the set-up pantablo recommends, should it be different with K&N pods, don't know if they flow better or not.

Also, are you guys still having long warm-up times?

THANKS, BigTwin
