Hi all, new here on this board, but not to bikes. I've got a heavily modded Suzuki GSXR 7/11 and 2 Yamaha RD350YPVS (RZ350 if you're Stateside)- 1 of which is being modded with 1989 Suzuki RGV250 running gear.
Anyway, my problem is that when I was changing the rear wheel on my wife's 1991 GS500, I lost the spacer that sits between the cush drive and the swingarm (either that or it wasn't there to start with... that's my excuse!) - does anyone have the dimensions (width in particular, the others aren't so important!) so I can make a new one for her?
She's gonna kill me if she has to keep commuting on her FZR600 for too long! lol
Next thing on the list is to put a GSXR400 front end on it and respray the whole thing for her, I'll post pics as I get along with it 8)

Item #10 in that diagram - the spacer that sits inside the cush drive is fine and in place, it's the one that sits between the cush drive bearing and the swingarm.

Failing that, I'll bolt it up without it, and get the old measuring stick out, see if I can get it close enough that way!

I think we have another entry for things that are different on 2001 and newer GS500's. My 2001 does not have a spacer there. I went to the dealer today and the 2005 on the floor does not have one either.

No, they do not - and, as I said, the 05 on the dealer floor does not have it either.

No spacer in sight ... but I guarantee that the circled spacer in the picture I posted above is in there.
Just curious - have you pulled one of these axles before? Did the bike on the showroom floor look different than the picture? (Besides being clean and not having a hitch pin... :roll: )
I won't insist that the later bikes DO have the spacer, because I've never disassembled one. But are you perhaps insisting that they DON'T without having disassembled one? :dunno: The '04 parts fiche definitely show the spacer....
BTW, when you pull the axle through the wheel, this particular spacer doesn't just fall out (on my bike). When I had my first rear tire replaced, the mech that I took the wheel to pulled that spacer out of the hub and said that he'd rather I held onto it - so they didn't lose it in the shop. So, I've made sure to pull it ever since (which is how it made it into the picture above).

The spacer nests inside the dust seal on the cush drive with only 3-4mm of it is exposed. I have a couple of them that I could take a pic of if needed. They are all the same.

If it rests inside the dust seal it may be there after all - I will check the next time I have to remove the wheel.
