Yeah ... Big ass minivan taxi ... he didn't check his blind spot ... car infront of me turns into Marriott driveway ... I proceed to get into that spot and this moron decides its his ... Hit his rear door and went down ... he stopped and Yea ... anyway ... no left leg is scraped up too ... to match the right which is in pain ... Anyway bars are bent, but the bike rode home just fine. I didn't have any gear on ... so I suck ... what else ... But slow enough ... I made out OK.
Cool.
Srinath.
Noooooooo... :o I'm glad you're ok...and still posting *some* smart@$$ stuff, which is a GOOD sign. :?
Glad you're ok. Hope the road rash isn't too bad? And hope you gear up better next ride! :nono: Cuz it would suck not to have your..uh...arguments around here ;)
Take care of yourself!
pandy
P.S. And to the bastige that hit ya: :guns: :guns: :guns:
Taxi drivers are worse than SUV drivers from what I've seen... They try to kill me no matter what I'm doing... Driving, Riding, Walking... Crazy bastards.
I dont wear gear ... yea, but aint goinna start ... OK I better start working on my invention ... AC motorcycle suit ... cos I cant get to work looking like I ran a marathon ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Off to ship off the stuff ...
Bummer. Way Un-cool. As Pandy said, glad that you've still got your humor about you.
Anybody offically lay blame on your incident? Is the Taxi gonna help make your bike better?
And you need a bigger gun than what Pandy offers. Maybe this: (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/redshift/bigshot.gif)

Ever consider a
Joe Rocket Phoenix Jacket:

Should be plenty of air flow, fabric around steel thread, lots of armor in the right plances and it's mostly red!! :thumb:

YES!!!
I have a Joe Rocket mesh jacket that's da bomb. I doubt we have your hot HUMID weather, but better to be sweaty and alive. :(
pandy
P.S. Heck, no, I'm not getting all mushy on you....I'd consider this more of a gentle @$$kicking. I'll get tough on you tomorrow when the shock wears off. :P

Good to hear you're not too bad. What bike were you on? Did you do some good damage to his door?
really glad to hear you were not seriously hurt. When i was on my long ride to Myrtle Beach on Interstate 95, the devil, a lady began to merge on me. I was going with traffic, speedo said 95 so probably more like 80-85. slowed, she slowed with me. couldn't speed up - SUV there. no response to the weak horn, and no shoulder so when she kept comin I kicked her car. Needless to say i was freaked out but still upright on my bike...
And at least you can make a new set of handle bars for yourself
Taxi drivers are horrible. Ever been to NYC?? :o I think your safer in the back alleys in the dark with the hoodlums than where the taxis can get you. Haha.
Glad your ok tho!
Glad you're alive. Hope you heal up fast. I'd rather sweat than bleed. If you are used to riding around without gear, you've got to unlearn what you have 'learned'. What you have there is a bad habit. Like smoking, you have the knowledge that it will kill you, but you may lack the will to actually stop. Personally, I lack the wisdom to keep my mouth shut, but I hope this helps. And, I really do hope you heal up.
glad you're okay...still near unintelligible so you must be alright...wear gear. JR makes the mesh stuff in overpants and jackets. no reason not to at least wear that. some example YOU set. :nana:

Yeah, get some mesh gear! If you're short enough, I'll give you my old Phoenix overpants.
Did the taxi driver get cited? Glad to hear you're OK... Ice and lots of liquid... at least some of it nonalcoholic.
Yea I have mesh ... but I sweat so much its still too much ... and my injury was all to leg ... left leg ... I dont thiink I damaged anything on him, someone witnessed it and gave me card and his tag # ... I went down and stayed down counting hand and feet ... was fine ... Bike just bent bars I checked after I got home, and no I'd slap on bars on it and go, making these bars ... no ... too tight bends and no welds ...
Cool.
Srinath.
PS:Yea now to ship stuff. Just packed it all ... scraped leg hurts like crazy but that pain is in effect superficial ... Ignoring is easy. What's a childhood without skinned knees ...

Man I thought NYC taxis were bad until I went over to Europe a couple times. Those guys will run you over, and I'm 100% serious!!! :o

Try Mexico. If you don't come back with stories of VW Bugs and Nissan Sentras nearly nailing you, you must have only been in NEW Mexico.

My bf and I went for a cruise to Mexico, and we took a cab for a shopping trip. That cab scared us so badly that we WALKED back to the ship and had MANY cocktails.
And how are you today, Srinath? Hopefully on the mend and ready to gear up? :P

The burn is scary looking but OK, the bike is still bent ... yea another week before I get on it I think. The right leg (The older muscle cramp/herniated disc) still has the left leg beat by a mile ... Doing OK, rode the virago 1100 today ... Man is that thing loud ... good thing, them whisper quieties are just trouble.
Cool.
Srinath.
No mention of gear, I note. :nono:
Glad you're not too worse for wear. You need to stay safe so you'll be in fine form for when your wife comes home to kick your boo-tay!! :P

I am probably going to start wearing the mesh, ironically this crash will not have made any diff with or without gear ... There was nothing to upper body, legs were scuffed by my pants whihc didn't even get a spec of dirt ... it just scraped my skin off through the pants ... and I have a burn on the back on my left calf the size of my palm, OK pants may have made it smaller ... but there is no armor there in pants and the effect will have been minimal. That funky ass synthetic they are made from (goretex) will melt real real quick run as a liquid and scorch ... so basically the extra gear in this occassion wont have made any diff. I dont believe I fell on my knees onto the road, I dropped the bike right astride ... and ended up sorta hunched over it ... then I rolled on to my ass ... and stayed that way for 5+ seconds while I took inventory ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Better to be safe than sorry. Glad to hear that you're going to start gearing up...as Pantablo said, you must be a good example for us quiet n00bs! :thumb:

Yea I should start ... but I am driven by weather ... Its gotten cooler atleast a few degrees since a few weeks ago ... but yea big surprise ... gear isn't the most essential at low low low speeds, else people walking down the street will have to suit up ... BFD ... start going faster and you'd better gear up.
Cool.
Srinath.
Just give the mesh a try. It's been between 90 and 100 in San Jose on some days the past few weeks, and the mesh definitely is a lifesaver in more ways than one. Since you say you sweat a lot, that's just more moisture for the air going through the mesh to cool down!

the quiet nag ;)
http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19602&highlight=peltier On the bottom... If you had your peltier chip ac suit, you'd not only be injured, but also (maybe) electricuted - another reason to stay away from that stuff... :)
Try eating tons of red pepper about before you get on the bike. Hotter is better! Capsaicin help you to cool by stimulating part of the hypothalamus; even better, rob it all over your body! Helps with pain too... :P :P :P

Well ... Pepper wont aggravate or cause ulcers ?? Now The TEC suit ... People wear heated stuff all the time, they all dont get electrocuted ??? Much worse if you ask me ... Maybe I'll fill a wine bag with water ... freeze it and use it as an insert ... Add that racing gas tank foam in it and then freeze it. Need to slow down the rate at which water will conduct temp and go warm so fast ... That blue gel stuff in can coolers maybe ...
Cool.

Works both ways actually, depends - in some cases capsaicin help healing with ulcer.
QuoteNow The TEC suit ... People wear heated stuff all the time, they all dont get electrocuted ???
Haha! It's a joke , but compare to them at 20~30W? for a motorcycle electric heating vast, almost 100% effecient, and at 12V, that's not alot of current, now imagine your peltier chipped suit with ten to a hundred times of power draw...
Glad to hear that your bike is OK, and you too. It's like you are invisable when your riding. I truly believe that bikers make better car drivers. I guess everyone should ride!!!!!

Really??? I found european drivers to be very aware, cautious and curtious. Although it could depend on location. I spent all my time in the alps away from most civilzation. best 2 weeks of riding ever!
