Well this blows, I went to the dentist today to get my wisdom teeth checked out cause they were buggin me. Come to find out they have laid over sideways...and I have to get them out TODAY. Im goin in at 2, this blows. I cant start cycle gear today because of this, and now ill have to miss work at my current job for at least 3 days. GRR!!! Oh well, it has to be done, either now, or later, it has to be done. Just had to vent, go in for a checkup and find out i need surgery ASAP. Ive NEVER been put under anesthesia before, and im VERY VERY nervous. Wish me luck!
Oh, it's great fun being put under! Since I absolutely enjoy passing out when I drink, this is great! I start counting backwards from 99, and by 97 I can feel my head slowly roll to the left, and then, almost suddenly, I'm waking up in a completely different room, like I was transported there in one of those Star Trek transporters! It was cool! And, did I mention it was fun!?!
wisdom teeth are fun, just don't leave there with out a pocket full of gauze pads, you'll want to change them like every 45 minutes. and dry sockets suck. although beer and perks do mix, I'd recomend against it unless your bored and just want to sleep for 10 hours or so.
if your that worried about it, I got a leatherman and a sewing kit, I can hook you right up.
yea im not lookin forward to this ONE bit. Still kinda nervous, maybe a tad scared. But like I said, it needs to happen :(.
worst case seniero is that they cut out your tounge, or you die.
so i whouldn't worry about it. atleast they are going to knock you out. I had mine out when i was in the cream corn. two novacane shots and a does this hurt? they started pulling. it felt like they were ripping out my brain. you can't deaden the nerves that run up into your noodle from the back of your jaw so you feel them ripping them out. and the worst part is the crunch and pop from when the root lets go of your jaw bone. and you hear it. have fun.
They should give you good drugs. I had my wisdom teeth out about a hundred years ago (all four), and I'd never been under, either. I was scared going in, but they were great, the drugs were good, and I slept a lot when I got home. I remember being sore, but the drugs took care of that. And it's an excellent excuse to eat ice cream!
If you're not completely out, they might do some drilling and breaking up of teeth (like hammering). I didn't know that when I went in, so I was a little shocked and scared by it. :o I just wish I'd known what to expect. Perhaps the last century has seen improvement in this area. Maybe they'll give you Versed, the wonderful "forget things" drug. I highly recommend it! ;)
You'll have someone to drive you, right?
Good luck, and I bet you'll come through with flying colours!!!
pandy
who thought Dan had been a little quiet lately...
P.S. ignore davipu..I'll spank him later for you  ;)
Quote from: pandyP.S. ignore davipu..I'll spank him later for you  ;)
Ooh, ooh, me too!
Yeah the reason your so sore after is because they remove them with a hammer and chisel. I too had 2 laying down, but I put mine off for years untill I finished college (and I could afford it). It made me feel better and its better to have all four taken out at once. Its not bad, just watch out for the dry sockets...

they shouldn't let you leave without a ride, cause you are way beyond leagle on the drugs that they give you.
and when you come out watch out for glass doors.
They said I will be going COMPLETELY under, knockout gas. But yea, ive been VERY VERY busy lately getting the new job setup, and school starting on Monday and yea, just VERY VERY hectic. And now this...
Come to think of it, if you're still reading, ask them for Versed! Wish I'd had that option when I had mine done. My sweetie has had to have epidural shots for his bad back, and he generally doesn't remember a thing for that whole morning.....and, of course, I'd never take advantage of that.....muahahaha!!!
pandy
P.S. And if you're seriously nervous, they could also try a little Valium or Ativan. There's nothing wrong with taking something to ease the nerves. Don't ask me how I know about all these good drugs. :)
This is actually great news. I wish I'd been completely knocked out. Seriously!
Well...if there's anything any of us can do who are reasonably close to you, just let us know!!
And try to come online before the drugs wear off...we wanna have some fun messin' with ya! :nana:
pandy ;) :)
P.S. And be sure to get a lot of rest! You're going to need to heal up quickly for your busy schedule!!

wisdom teeth are no big deal. My biggest problem was a soar throat from being intubated. On the Plus, plus, PLUS side, the stuff they give you via IV right before you go into the OR is a-fricking-mazing. Try to sit back and enjoy being high as a kite in a controlled environment
Yea, my mom will be here in about 30 min to pick me up and take me over there. Didnt think it would be wise to roll over on the bike. But yea, not lookin forward to this. Sucks i cant start work today though :( thats the only thing im pissed at.
I was scared as hell before my knee surgury (ACL, MCL, etc.). They gave me a shot of something and I was feeling very happy by time I got to the operating table. Get some of that stuff.
Questions:
1) What are dry sockets?
2) What is the effect of having wisdon teeth laid over?
3) How long is the recovery?
4) What does the procedure cost?
5) That covers it.
Good luck dude. You'll be fine.
Patience, grasshoppah. You'll be working soon enough. Just do what ya' gotta do, and then all will be well. :thumb:

I dont know much abotu the procedure. But having wisdom teeth laid over sucks, it puts pressure on my other teeth and is causing my gums to swell up. Recovery is like 4 or 5 days, about 3 days of spitting blood. Not sure ont he cost, my health insurance is covering it, there isnt even a co-pay. So yea, fun stuff...
I think it is cool (cool, right? Yeah, cool) that an hour before your oral surgury you are on GStwin.com.
lol I have nothing better to do, and ive never been so nervous in my entire life....ive NEVER had any type of surgery before, and ive NEVER been put under EVER.
He knows where to come for people who will razz him enough to take his mind off things.
pandy ;)

You're going to do very well. I'm just sorry I won't be there to witness any walking into walls or doors.

don't worry. it won't be nearly as bad as havign the RR scrubbed out. you gotta be really careful till the stiches come out which is going to be atleast a week. get a baby tooth brush, one of the really soft ones cause a normal one can tear them open. I guess for the next week we are going to call you chipmunk.
Jake, drysocket is whare the bloodclot falls out of the gaping hole left in your jaw. extremly painful to say the least. wisdom teeth when fully formed will extend almost a inch into your jaw that isn't visiable under the gum. so you basicly have all the nerves in your jaw exposed. just imagine every arm hair being pulled slowly at the same time, and you'll kinda get the idea, only it's so much worse cause the nerves are so close to your brain.
laid over, I don't know mine were straight.
it's been almost two years since I had mine out and I still have a gap in my jaw, it's closed inside but every once in a while I still get food stuck in there.
I got what I paid for, to say the least. you know they say about dentists, they are all the ones who failed out of med school, and the ones in the military, they were too drunk to work in college so they joined to have the govt pay for thier school.
If it makes you feel any better, I work for the company that produces most of the anaesthesia machines in the US. Hmm, maybe I should have left that for after you get done.
Don't worry, I work in R&D. I don't actually make the machines
Sucks to have something like this all of a sudden, but at least your insurance covers it and you have a way to get there (or more importantly, back home) that doesn't involve your bike.
You are probably already out the door Danny, but enjoy!
Not nearly as bad as everybody (Dave) says it is...You'll come out of it just fine.
hey Tony, go poke him in the cheek when he get's out.

What ... You said you work for bike shop goat ... OK are they the same ... :o ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Does your jaw look skinnier after they yank those suckers out?
And also, normally you fast for ten hours or so before surgury. When it is unexpected like this, do you think that you pee on accident as soon as you go under?
they'll probably give him a cathader. haha sucker.
I had my wisdom teeth pulled in two sessions while I was awake... There's nothing quite like that sound. :?
Uh..yeah...now that Daniely's gone...uh..I can agree with you wholeheartedly... I'd never had anything done to my teeth before besides cleanings...no cavities, nothing...that was my first introduction to the wonderful world of horrible sounds.... :o
I can't even imagine why they wouldn't knock someone out....yeesh! :?
pandy
Quote from: RVertigoI had my wisdom teeth pulled in two sessions while I was awake... There's nothing quite like that sound. :?
because it's more fun that way. and in case something goes wrong it's easier to deal with an awake paitent that you can sedate if needed.
I'm actually kinda mad that my dentist won't fill my last molar... Bastard says I have to have a cavity to get a filling...
But, c'mon! I only have that ONE left!
you can go down to TJ and for a hundred bucks get it done.
But... My insurance covers it... I just need to stop brushing that tooth.
Conversation I had with a Dentist several years ago:
Quote
Him: Dang, you're 30 and still have wisdom teeth?
Me: Yea, I only have 2 though.
Him: Well, those other two need to come out.
Me: What if I leave them in til they bother me?
Him: Well then you will have to have them taken out.
Me: Well, since my 90 year old Grandfather has 4 in his head maybe I will just wait.
Him: That is crazy!
Me: Why?
Him: Cause you could get into a situation where you would have to have oral surgery.
Me: You mean like having my wisdom teeth cut out?
Him: Exactly!!
Needless to say I didn't go back to that moron.
Well bad update, or good depending on your outlook.
They arent going to do it today which sucks for me. They took more x-rays and found out they need ot take part of my jaw bone with the teeth. They are completely on their sides. They said since its so close tot he nerve in my jaw, that I need to take anti-biotics, and ibuprofein for at least a day before the operation. We are re-scheduling it for next thursday. Which sucks, I was supposed to crash a business class on thursday. Since is the first I may still be alright, and I wasnt supposed to start Cycle Gear until the 21'st which would give me 3 days to heal. I may get that sunday off and just start on Monday instead. Im going to call them tomorrow and let them know.
My teeth are still bugging me, my wisdom teeth are putting massive amounts of pressure on my other molars, causing what feels like a perpetual cavity (even though I have none). So yea this sucks, it really really sucks. But oh well. Ill have to put up with the pain for another week. They gave me pain killers though :) which is good, but they dont do much good. Right now im taking the rest of the day off because they prodded so much my jaw hurts. Oh well, back to work tomorrow, at least ill be up and around for another week.
I still got my leatherman, if it starts to really bother you.
Sorry it isn't working out the way you were hoping. I like that the doc is cautious, though. Remember not to take yer pain killers and ride! Hope you feel better soon. :(

I'm assuming you mean Daniely, ya' big meanie! :P
yep.
At least I wrecked in a turn and not over a set of rail road tracks :).
you still noobinated your bike.

Getting my four wisdom teeth pulled on the 18th... one has a GIANT hole in it, get to see what I eat everday! :thumb:

Anyway ... good luck with that.
