Title: No #$#$%^ way!
Post by: pslamp32 on August 11, 2005, 07:55:33 PM
Well as many of you know, I got a '94 GS yesterday. Well today I rode my bike to the insurance company to get it legal. Next I rode her to the tag office to get it registered. So far, so good. Well almost. I walk outside and WTF! Someone knocked my bike over and fled the scene. I got the bike up (which is not the easiest thing to do btw) and my clutch lever is broken and the left side handlebar weight is completely sawed off. So now I can't even ride to the shop! Flippin' had to wait in the 90 degree heat for an hour 'til the truck came to pick my bike up. Now no bike for several days while I wait for parts. Just thought I'd vent. Have a nice day. :x  :x  :x

Man, that is fuct up!!!  People can be jackasses sometimes.  No respect for other people's property.  I could go on and on.  At least the damage is light...you'll be riding again in no time.

Dude.. That sucks  :guns:

Seems that there are lots of posts about that happening. I always park my bike in the yellow striped areas in parking lots, or in any area away from car traffic. So far ive been safe, but I guess no matter what you do, that kinda $h!t can happen..

:x  Cagers

I would ask if they had cameras in the lot, but it's NC they suck. (I lived there for three years, they suck)

They only put cameras at traffic lights.

do you all park where all the other the cars are? or where not even the flies fly? (empty space, far away from entrance to movies/mall/office/etc)

usually I try to park right up next to the buildings. striped zones as long as they are not blue,  and then last (unless I'm with another bike) in a parking spot.

If this is any consolation, it might have just fallen over.
It's happened to my GS twice now  :x  The first time it was in a parking lot with security cameras. I asked campus safety to check the videos...find out who tipped it over. They watched them and sure enough the damn thing just fell over by itself! I'm like WTF  :guns:  It's as if the kickstand just gives way or something.
Again it happened yesterday. My bike was parked on the concrete driveway. I was sitting in the yard with my back turned to it. Nobody in the yard. I hear this horrific splat and turn around to see another broken clutch lever and sawed off bar end  :x  No way anyone could have tipped it over.
I'm thinking that this could have happened to you and many others. Did you have it parked with the kickstand down and the wheel turned to the left?

this reminds me...

how much 'game' should the kickstand have?

should I tighten nut pictured on red circle?  :dunno:

I doubt it is hot in North Carolina this time of year, but if it was, the kickstand could have sunk into the blacktop.  Dunno.

That was make you sick though.  Sorry dude.

Somewhere around an inch, give or take.

You can try, but don't be surprised if it's already tight as it'll get.  There is some looseness designed into this thes whole arrangement.

that is why I hate NOVA.  It is always hotter there than here in the mountains.  More humid too.

Put the bike in gear and roll it forward so that it can no longer roll forward in gear, if you park the bike facing downhill, on the sidestand.

Hope this helps.
