Title: What do you guys use to find apartments?
Post by: Mk1inCali on August 16, 2005, 11:33:22 AM
I've been using craigslist, backpage.com (from San Diego's weekly Reader) and some word of mouth, but haven't been able to find an apartment for this fall there yet.

What do you folks use when looking for a new pad?

In the past, I've used both Craig's List & ApartmentGuide.com

Good luck!

if you have a college nearby, check the postings for off campus housing.  A lot of the time there are some good places there.  Also classifieds Sunday local paper.  Call real estate companies too, a lot of the time they have a few rentals, be it apts or houses.

I used to use craigslist and apartmentsomething.com to find good candidates (only looked at the picture ads; why the hell doesn't everyone post pictures in their ads?!  They get so many more views), and then I'd go look at those and then take an extra half hour to drive around the neighborhood.  Generally, where there's one nice place there are several more . . .

When I was in SD looking for places I found all of my off campus places in the Sunday paper, but that was before craigslist expanded much outside of SF.   That took a loooong time, lots of calling around, and lots of driving up to see individual places.
