I tried sticking with it as the commuter, but my knees don't like it. I would have liked to have swapped just the SV, but money won't let me. So... someone here go buy it from Aurora Suzuki. :P It's a delightful bike, in really nice shape. Bubye. :(

I'm selling mine too I've had it with trying to put this god damned exhaust on. I'm selling it as is with a exhaust that doesn't fit right and a broken clutch perch from when I tried to install srinath's bars.
Bye bye whacked out GS, hello gixxer 750.
What's this!! Roadstergal retiring not one bike but two, and the GS500 is one of them. And judging from her signature line, she's picked up a GSX-R600?
Did I sleep through something? Someone pinch me back to reality.
Whatever you do, don't leave the forum. Someone's gotta keep Davipu in his place, and this place needs enough sensibility to balance the anarchy.
Ride safe and enjoy whatever you're on. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/redshift/Ride.gif)
Oh well...the pocket book is king when it comes to what you can have. I know I am enjoying the hell out of my GS and when it comes time to try a bigger displacement bike I sure hope I can keep mine for commuting. On the bright side you still have two great bikes :).
How is the GSXR, I like what I hear but I know i am not ready for true sport bike power yet. Maybe in a coupla years and about 10k or more miles.
Jeezus, I'm glad I'm not commuting on that thing. I would get in so much trouble. I've heard that the 600s are lacking in low end, but that's BS. It has a great low end and a ludicrous high end. It starts making noises at 5K that make you feel all tingly, and they just get louder and more complex all of the way up.
Getting onto the freeway is a religious experience. You twist the throttle, the heavenly choir sings, and you ascend. I was at the bottom of a ramp looking at a car near the top, and wondered, "Could I get around him before he gets to the freeway?" I went most of the way through first and popped into second, and noticed that I was well over 90 and the guy was well in the rearview.
The lean-in is something. The SV, as I've noted before, requires a good crank of countersteer in order to lean. This bike doesn't; it leans almost psychically.
I'm going to go ahead and put race skins on it, so I won't mess up the pretty plastic when I crash. :P
that sounds almost like what a friend of mine has said, girl as well. One of these faithful days, when I am back up in Fredericksburg, I am going to see if she will let me take it for a spin, you know you ride mine i ride yours kind of thing. I am sure she will say sure, I am also curious to see what she has to say about the GS being that she has never ridden one.

PS: that is one perdy bike you got there :)
We are loosing too many of you to bigger bikes. PLEEEASE! Come back. The GS will do better she swears. You can watch football every night like you wanted. She will even cook you steak and eggs every morning. You know that leather you wanted?... Well The GS bought it for you. PLEEEASE come back!
I couldn't resist.

now thats a bonified, sexified bike.

Nice bike Roadstergal, and nice pictures too. :thumb: I always said I wouldn't personally buy a GSX-R for the main reason is that it is basically cliche (there are other reasons too). Every squid I see riding around town has one (for a month or two), and every soon-to-be squid wishes he had one. But, atleast your a real rider who really knows what she is doing, and you can handle it. Good for you :thumb:
Oh yea ... she'll be back ... they always come back ...
How about buying an Old ass GS R'gal ...
Cool.
Srinath.

I noticed that too - my guess is that she's having it shaved down and is riding without it for now

Okay. I'll bite. What's the whole story? The switch to a true sportsbike (posture, power, insurance) can't be explained with a comment about "knees". There can't be more leg room on the GSX-R?
(My butt doesn't like the seat, but that's not enough for me to go bike shopping, not that that it restricts it either. ;) ) At least one curious GS500 owner wants to know...
PS. Yea, speaking about butts, what's up with the missing seat on the R600?
PPS. Thanks for the great pics. You have an eye for it. Could give Kevin Wing a run for his job...
Nice bike. They don't offer the red in Canada.. only the blue, black or yellow.
I'm guessing that the 32.5 inch seat (nearly an inch more than a stock GS), just doesn't agree with your inseam. Will shaving the already unsupportive seat be enough, or will you need to fiddle with the suspension?
Enjoy the new bike!
OK, for both...
No, I got the Breva as my commuter. Nice, upright, easy-on-knees stance. The GSX-R is going to be a dedicated track bike, and will only see some weekend use in that service.
I took the cover and foam off of the seat and painted the pan with bedliner. Screw $100 to cut the seat for this purpose. :p My feet touch the ground, and it feels fine.
Having bad knees myself, I can empathize. But of the smaller bikes I tried on, the GS500 was the roomiest standard for my 6'4" frame -- never sat on a Breva though. (I'll have to visit that booth at the next Bike show in Detroit.)
I have to say you've cleaned up your bike stable with the swap. You must really look boss with new leathers and a bike goes like a bat outta hell of the same color. It's obvious you're on a mission. :)
I look forward to following your racing career on SPEED TV. :thumb: Watch out Tommy Hayden ... :)

I'm gonna miss the great pictures of the yellow GS :(
Sweet new bike though.... do you get hosed for insurance on race bikes like we do in the great white north?
Quote from: daneilahdo you get hosed for insurance on race bikes like we do in the great white north?
No insurance required in WA. I have it on the commuter, but this one is uninsured. I'm going to transform it muchly from stock anyway, though. I think it will become much less of a theft target in another week and a half. :)

That is probably enough to get Daneilah to apply for a U.S. work visa. ;)

Hey Roadstergal, what are the break-in limits for your 600? and for how long.

Neither can I! The parts arrived yesterday, much sooner than I expected.
Quote from: rclzHey Roadstergal, what are the break-in limits for your 600? and for how long.
Beats the crap out of me - I got it just after the break-in service, when the guy decided a 600 didn't have enough power for him, and got a 1000. More than a grand off of basically a new bike...
So when are you getting the 1000
Nice bike though!!!

Like a cheap used GS. Well, I'll see if the ergos are as much better on the pre-'01 as I remember, or if I just have rosy memories. Maybe it'll be my commuter and I can save on gas and insurance.

Yea what Redshift said.

It will be red. There's a BMW limited color called Ruby II.
I knew it had to match your new suit ;)
A little more glittery... we'll see how it comes out. On an M3:

I went on to the internet to get some insurance quotes. I put in my bike as a reference point, and the internet quote matches what I pay.
GS500F - $800
GSX-R1000 - $3000
GSX-R600 - we're sorry, we cannot quote you insurance at this time
Kinda takes away any temptation I might have to join all you gixxer-types

You know, I'm beginning to believe you might be a tad fickle. You flushed your whole stable, then buy six different wheels in what, four weeks?
BTW, Are we talking "Burgman" 400? Cool...
Spring cleaning at the end of summer.
Current plan...
Ship out the plastics I eBayed by the end of the week.
Get the GSX-R finished by this weekend. First track day on it a week later.
Spend odd weekends wrenching on the GS until it's where I like it.
Commute on the spongy comfy thing.

I know it entertains y'all.
I should have gotten a used GS instead of the GS500F to start with. It's just a better fit and a better deal. And when I was looking at commutermobiles, some folk recommended big scooters. I dismissed them out of hand, and shouldn't have.
still wearing that same thong?
I change my underwear more often than I change my bikes.
barely.
True dat.
