Title: Got permission to cut any trail I would like on Common land
Post by: VTNewb on August 22, 2005, 09:31:07 AM
I'm in a small development of 5 deep in the forest here in VT. We have about 35-45 acres of really wild common land, and I was given permission to make any dirtbiking trails I would like! The reason? So the others can snowshoe and Xcountry ski in the winter. Holy crap am I excited. :)  :)

Too bad you're so far...  I'd be over every weekend helping you make trails!!!  (and maybe a few jumps).

I would kill for a brush hog right now. The weed wacker can only do so much.

Weed wacker?  BAH!!!  Chain something really heavy to the back of your moto and ride around really slow...  More fun than a weed wacker!

Or go rent something......   It might be worth it.

Well, I cut the trail entrance through brush, theres no brush in the forest as its old growth, I just gotto cut out lower dead branches and fallen trees. It's looking really promising, alot of big air jump locations. I'll take pics this weekend.

do like a friend of mine does and strap a laen mover to the back of something and pull it around and cut out all the crap.  I don't know that i'd use the moto for that though.

I've got 1200 acres (800 of woods) that I have dirtbike/quad trails running all through. Course..I made mine with a D4 bulldozer, swipe takes out little trees and is jus the right width so if u bounce around a bit u don't end up landing in a tree...sometimes when i was bored though I would jus burn out down the open areas on the quad to rip it up.   I killed that quad good thing i got a new one

So how about some pics of the project?

I borrowed a friends tractor and mowed the field the trails going to originate from. Straight ahead in this pic I have about 18 acres through the woods and 20 or so from the left of the pic.

Through this corridor at the end of the field in the first pic

I have to cut through this mess up the hill and I'm in the forest for earnest and it's all chainsaw work.

Off to the right of the field that you can't see we had a team use a big bull dozer to cut this path here that leads to an 1800's bridge we found in the woods that we're going to recondition.

I'm pretty excited about getting the trail laid down. I've got it all blazed, just need some time/

I like old bridges...  I'm always amazed that they're still standing.
