Title: Clip-ons from other bikes on GS?
Post by: BigTwin on August 23, 2005, 09:07:57 AM
Will any other bikes factory clip-ons fit on the GS500, other than the CBR F1 Hurricane?

I need to find a cheap set of clip-ons rather than spending $120 on Vortex ones.

Any info would be great, and if you have some you're willing to sell PM me or post here.

THANKS, BigTwin

I'll get around to changing out my clip-ons someday... I've been pretty busy looking at houses lately.. You've got dibs on my old set, is your bike ready yet?

Let me know if you want to do the fork thing Wednesday, I'll be off all day and going to the quakersteak for bike night.(http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y29/fettcols/4d241496.jpg)

I got mine from airtech streamlining. They are very simple, but functionable.

Fettcols,

Your clip-ons are factory clip-ons? Where can I get some like that? I'd really like to get my 6-foot-5 self down out of the wind.

Thanks for your help.

Doug

Fett,

I did a search and saw a post of yours on another thread. Looks like you have '89 clip-ons. So I guess I answered my own question.

depends if you want to drop the yoke down the forks about 1 1/2 inches, the rg500 slip over the tops of the forks, tried it out of daftness and was to much of a lean over for my likings

I've got a second set but bigtwin has dibs... Someday I'll get around to polishing and filing them so they fit right. Right now when you lock the front end the horn button hits the tank.

They put you in a pretty good riding position and I've been dealing with the horn button issue by just avoiding locking the forks..

Not a problem for me, I've got an old body style, so it should be clear.  In any case, let me know if it doesn't work out with bigtwin...I'll paypal ya ASAP.

Awesome, thanks. So from that point, I would just need the triple tops, right? I have a 2005, by the way. And has anyone solved the issue with the horn when the bars are locked?

I seen the one pic of the clip on but what all is included? just the handle bar or the whole assembly? And whats the purpose? To decrease the height of the handles? I think if thats the purpose, please someone who has a set for the 05 gs500f PM me with the info and what you want. Or call my cell @(386)6237670....thanks....

My bike was totalled before I had the clearance problem solved. I had an extra set and I added two spacer blocks but never intalled them to check. I think some work with a flat file to change the angle on the upright would work too.

I just rode with them the way they were... Just turn the ignition off before locking the forks..

as for the original question. you can use any 37mm clip ons. I think the VF500F ones will work....

these are a set I made myself. Really puts alot of weight over front. Makes it corner(in my opinion) a hell of alot better.
I have alot more feel in the front now.
let me know if you want a set made. I'll get back to you with production times and costs.  :thumb:

Where does one find steel clamps in various sizes? I need a few but don't know where to buy them.
I need strong clamps to hold a steering damer.
