Title: scorpion exhaust can
Post by: ginoe on August 25, 2005, 07:37:26 PM
got my hands on a scorpion can from a kawi zx7

had to dremel the flange bolt holes to fit the scorpion since they're probably designed for the wileyco (take a good look at the flange bolt holes) - i also dremeled off the 'restrictor' (not pictured) and painted the flange with black hi-heat

got a trackday this saturday so i won't peform any surgery until sunday - i'll post pics when i finish the job

I like the rolled edge on the exhaust tip.  A guy I know has a set of Scorpion pipes on his VStrom 1000.  They sound pretty good on it.

Is the flange tube's diameter the same as the GS's?

The flange will slide over the old GS's header ...
Cool.

spent sunday morning working on removing the stock exhaust and replacing it with the flange and scorpion can i got from a kawasaki zx7. removed the stock exhaust and cut it with a sawzall just before the last weld where it leads into the exhaust canister. the stock can is much heavier then the scorpion, i should have weighed it to see how much weight i lost.

i took a mock-up picture of how the new exhaust would look like. since it's not a wileyco (it's a scorpion) the outcome looked a bit radical to me vs. the stock form.

all said and done, it was easy to slip the flange onto the stock exhaust but it did take a bit of work to get the scorpion can mounted on the rear passenger peg. i used the spacer provided by the exhaust can strap (plus i did not want rich to be the only one in the 'spacer' club  :thumb: ).

i don't care if you hurt my feelings, tell me what you think of my custom mod...

here is a sample vid of how it sounds - i just put the finishing touches on the exhaust mod and i'm taking a ride down the road...(yes, you can hear the rooster crowing as i leave my driveway & the sqealing you hear is my rear brake).

Looks great ... that little spacer ... big deal ... BTW that can is nearly identical to wileyco ... size and length etc ...
Cool.

I like it! I dare say it sounds sportier than the wileyco, atleast with my setup. My ears think the wileyco has a nicer, deeper rumble but the scorpion sounds sportier and higher pitched. I like it a lot.

...and as for the spacer -->  :thumb:

Looks good and sounds even better Ginoe!

i was kinda reluctant when i got the scorpion since it was designed for a zx7 - 748cc inline-4, 16 valves,  100+hp (unlike the gs - 486cc inline-2, 8 valves, 47hp). though i'm glad i got it.

rich - you had your centerstand taken care of

BUT...what did everyone else do?

i temporarily duct taped a plastic soda bottle top to the center stand where it makes contact with the dogbone. it gives about an inch clearance so the centerstand does not make contact with the drive chain.

do tell...

I put this foam rubber stuff that is designed to go on the bottom of chairs on the center stand.  I put about an inch of the stuff on there with zip ties.  Seems to be working ok.

Yeah, the Wileyco can I have was designed for a GSX-R 750, but I love the sound of it on my lil GS  :thumb:

Hahaha, yeah I have seen this thread before too Nick.  The exhaust looks great and sounds unreal.  What are you going to post about once you finally change the exhaust on your bike?  Just messin' with ya.

I'm cheap now. If I want to drink to forget I make sure I do it right and go with the 190. It's cheaper in the long run.

I get mine here:

www.absinth24.net (http://www.absinth24.net)

I've bought several bottles from them and no problems.  BUT it's coming from somewhere in Europe so shipping is $$.

It doesn't make you see shaZam!, it just makes you really really dumb and feel like you damaged your brain the next morning.  Van Gogh drank a lot of the stuff, and yeah he went mad and cut off his ear among other things.  To drink that much here and now in the US would be very very expensive.  IMO, its over priced for what it is.  There are a lot better substances out there for a lot less money (ie Heineken!)

If you want to find out more about it go here:

http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/absinthe/absinthe.shtml

Edit: Oh and absinthe is one of the things you can own but not buy in the US as long as you're over 21.  Getting it over seas is perfectly legal.

ohh ya i know that part ive read about the law concerning that. my boss infact has 6 bottles at homes, he says the stuff taist like likerish (sorry i probably misspeld that 2)

the greeeeeen juice in its Van Gogh form (wormwood) is way not legal. as WRECENT said anywhere.

I've tried the stuff here in the states and its blah.  i tried it in Germany and its Blah. Tried it in France and Austria, BLAH,BLAH.

If your going to germany and you want the real shaZam!, you will have to jump the border to the czech republic.

Prague maybe, but you will find it in the flea markets, just 15 min into czech.  take autobahn 6 (nuernburg/amberg) from Germany into Czech and go to the tourist fleamarkets.  The understand english (mostly) and understand "the real stuff".

It's not legal, so have a designated driver, unless you want to brake international smugglin laws.  Be ready for the high of your life.

its too scarce to become a habit.  so have at it.  **stay away from bright lights   :icon_lol:

The stuff overseas is the same as here. BLAH. just a liquor.

The real stuff is a controlled substance. like COKE, HEROIN, METH...ect...

Check out the Erowid vault on it, there's a lot of legal info on here: http://www.erowid.org/chemicals/absinthe/absinthe_law.shtml... It is illegal for sale in the US and most European countries, but private possesion is usually OK.   In the US, it is treated like a ban on a food and is controlled by the FDA and NOT like a ban on a drug that is controlled by the DEA. Moving it from one country to another may be a bad idea, but the worst that will probably happen is customs will take it and drink it themselves  :icon_lol:

And yeah you can get 'Absinthe' in the US, but it's not real, it's just some green 80 proof crap.

It is still legal and quite popular in several countries, including Czech Republic.  All the bottles I've bought were Czech shipped to my door, 140 proof made with wormwood and contained thujone, and yeah they worked just fine  :thumb:

Give it a try, but IMO its not worth it, I'd much rather a quality bottle of Bourbon

I have Army phamplets from my stint in Germany calling it a controlled substance, but it could be just an army thing.

Your saying you get the real thing? the Van gogh shaZam!?  thats cool I guess, but I won't touch the stuff. I didn't feel right for a while, the first time.
Title: Re: scorpion exhaust can

in Germany you can drink wine and beer <20% alc by volume at 16, and anything else at 18.  They're not as anal about booze as they are here, and people under 16 can pretty much get all the beer they want and never be asked their age.

Yup the real shaZam!, DHL'd right in my mail box... once was enough for me too, I got it 2 other times just because a bunch of people I knew wanted to try it.

'Controlled substance' in Germany is different from a 'controlled substance' in the US.  Namely, they don't spend billions of dollars every year to stop people from killing some of their own brain cells.
