Well another one is about to hit. Katrina looks like it is goign to be a big one too. I hope for New Orleans sake that it turns, but it would suck more for us. This is going to hurt regardless. Just trying to share the pain. :(
Yeah hopefully it doesn't strengthen back up in the gulf before it turns but that looks like what it is going to do.... Best of luck to anyone already hit or about to be hit, be safe.
Reports don't look good. The conditions are favorable for a very major hurricane. Can't wait to put the plywood up again tomorrow. :bs:
Urg, ya your right its not looking good for the gulf coast. I live in mobile but i'm in new orleans right now originally sposed to visit for the weekend. Now i'm trying to figure out where I'm going to go. I could head to baton rouge and stay with friends. I could head back to mobile which is still in the possible track OR I could just stay in New Orleans. Kinda scary to be honest. I'm not sure what exactly to do I'm waiting for the 4am info to make a choice. G'Luck to all those across the gulf coast. I think we might need it.

if you have the gas money, I have a extra couch.
i just got done with her, only a cat 1 but was left without power for 32 hours, major humid heat even after sun went down and the Mosqitoes tearin hell outa us cuz the only ventelation was to leave the front and rear doors open.
others wernt so lucky with property damage and 5 lives lost.
Anyone know much about Induction motors? If i cant find a cheap generator soon (hurricane season runs to mid nov down here) im gonna have to build one. im not going through that again with no power.
Ash, what the hell are you thinking? Get the hell out of New Orleans. At least go north or west some. You are freaking crazy. I agree coming here isn't real smart either. New Orleans is a freaking death trap.
On the generator side I heard that FEMA will actually rememburse for the purchase of a generator ethe day of/day before/ or possiblily the day after a hurricane. Not sure what all the restrictions are though. I'd like to buy one also, but finding one on those days is pretty hard.

Were keeping our fingers crossed for you guys on the coast. Looks bad for LA and parts of MS. I hope the surge stays out of Mobile Bay. We're expecting 50-60 mph winds here and all the schools have dismissed today. But alas I'm here watching the skies and the weather channel webpage hoping the power stays. 8)
Take care Vball24!
Let us know how it turns out.
And whats left of it is coming up our way.
Vball and Ash? You guys check in when you can. It was worse here than I expected, they are saying 50% of the state of AL is without power. Everybody in my small town is out (except the office, dammit). With the amount of trees down and the damage I don't expect it back soon either. Three larger businesses in the downtown area had the roofs blown off. I lost a big (24" dia) sweet gum tree in my front yard, luckily it fell across the road and not toward my house. Many of my neighbors weren't as lucky as me. We have got a bunch of clean up ahead of us.
Hope you guys further south are OK.
I just heard that New Orleans is having to be completely evacuated?! :?
Does the water continue to rise in New Orleans?
:( From CNN:
Authorities along the Gulf Coast used boats and helicopters to reach residents stranded by Hurricane Katrina and search for survivors on Tuesday, as New Orleans residents fought to stem the flow of water rushing into the low-lying city.
<snip>
Katrina caused widespread flooding across the region, and floodwaters were still rising Tuesday in New Orleans after a hole opened in a levee protecting the city.
Has anyone heard anything from Vball or Ash? I'd like to know if they are okay...Let us know & pray for them~Thanks
I'm still without power. Emptied out the fridge and freezer last night :( Cold showers aren't that bad when your house is 100 degrees inside ;)
I don't think we will be hearing from anyone along the coast for a while. CNN reported this morning it will be 6 - 12 weeks before power is restored.
The pictures of the destruction (on TV) are just stunning... I hope everyone there gets the help they need... :(
I just read in the Merc newspaper about the levies failing. I hope you guys are alright. My prayers for everyone in the New Orleans area. Such a beautiful place.
wow, as the news keeps coming in its unreal. Its hard to comprehend the loss of human and animal life plus all the property... Its bigger than anyone even feared... It will get worse as the rescue goes on. unreal.
yeah it is terrible what happened down there. Everyone is seeing some effects from it but not like all the people that lost everything.
Well I came out alright. All my fences were taken out by trees, but at least then didn't land on my roof. Lost a few shingles and my porch roof came up. Luckily I live in a pretty populated part of Mobile so I actually got my power back late last night after they cut trees off the line. Downtown Mobile flooded, but not near as bad as MS and LA. We for the most part got pretty lucky. There is still quite a bit of pick up and repair to do. Not to mention gas being a premium.
MS was struck so hard, even worse so because most of them were not prepared. I imagine we will be temporary home areas for people that cannot return to their homes.
Here are a few of the damage to my house and the area.

Thank you for the pics and for checking in. I'm glad you're safe, and I'm sending good thoughts for the search and rescue folks and to all who were damaged in any way by Katrina.
Glad you're safe.
glad your OK Vball... I hope we get power back soon. My towns National Guard just got called up to go to southern MS. I told my wife last night I wish I was going with them. I feel helpless just sitting here.
There is so much that needs to be done it is awesome. Since I work at the Corps I'll most likely be deployed over to MS in the near future to help out. The National Guard is having to stop trying to search and rescue in New Orleans because of the looting. I think here some guy shot his sister in the head over a bag of ice. My sister's husband's brother works in Meridan, MS and they said they were picking up dead bodies. Meridan is quite a bit inland.
Total chaos. So glad to hear you made it alright. I can't believe that with all this country's resources that we can't help people faster.
Too bad most of our military is in Iraq. They could really help out there at home.
we are starting donation fund and a blood drive at work, let me know if there is anything I can do. You have my prayers too. Safe safe and keep us informed when you can.
I haven't heard anything from Ash. I hope he went to Texas.
I'm sorry but these people that are shooting at the helicopters in New Orleans need to be shot. When are they going to put a sniper in these helicopters? If guns are pointed in their direction they should have the authority to shot back. These people are preventing the rescue workers from saving people. :x I am so pissed. We need to take control of this situation before it gets worse.
Hey they need everything down there. If you don't have money to give old clothes and stuff like that would be very useful. Just take that stuff to the redcross or salvation army.
Hey all,
thanks for all the concern and well wishs. i ended up in baton rouge LA and things are not too bad up here. we were w/o power for a few days. B.R is now the biggest city in LA cuz of all the refugees comin from new orleans the towns pop has like doubled. My roommate in mobile said that we have a tree in our roof about a foot wide but over all not too bad I guess. New Orleans, my home town. God what can I say areas where I used to hang out are gone friends and familys homes are underwater and they have lost all they own and no longer have jobs, what do you do after that? Thankfully my family seems to be doing ok My parents house has some trees down but nothing major. THankfully the levees held up in destrehan where they live. About 30 min drive from N.O. d'han is 20 miles upriver from n.o. I'm headed in tonight to meet up w/ my bro in law and dad to clean up. Then i'm headed back to mobile early next week. No power in d'han but we have a generator. Well, I have to get going I'll ttyl.
