I feel like such a tool. :(
Stopped, put the kickstand down, but not all the way, leaned off the bike, thing fell while I had one foot in the air, I didn't have a chance to save it. At least I was able to pick it up again after - heavy!
Lesson learned, broke the left mirror and clutch lever. Some oil somehow got out too. Hopefully that's what's supposed to happen, I've topped it off again.

:(
why make me cry so early in the week? :nono:
Sorry. Maybe some humor.
How about Kerry makes a new one minute instructional video (as an aside, :thumb: to him). It could go something like this:
"Is your clutch lever too cracked or too broken? You tool, begin by..."
Interesting idea, but not sure it's worth the bandwidth.
But if I ever did make such a video, I'd make sure to include: "Even Kerry has had to replace his levers - more than once each!"
Hey that bandwidth could be useful to me. But you're probably right, it looks easy enough to replace.
I got a new mirror set and clutch lever ordered, cost ~$30. Fortunately dropping the bike wasn't expensive (imagine replacing fairings!) :o
At least you don't have plastic to replace...
And I bet you'll always make sure it's all-the-way on the side stand before getting off... I know I do. :thumb:
At least you didn't completely forget to put the kickstand down! (But I only did that once...in the very beginning....)
... and Pandy's story is common. Most everyone undergoes a drop in their riding career. I find these are very educational and have yet to drop it twice the same way. I have just jinxed myself, haven't I... :(
If you have, you must do your penance and come share with us. ;)
I dropped the gs my riding school provided. Hoping that means for the most part Ive gone through the standard first drop and have good odds of not doing it again for quite some time ;)
Quote from: pandyIf you have, you must do your penance and come share with us. ;)
Okay, Okay. Contrition time:
- The first time I had'er in neutral on the sidestand, warming up in the parking lot. Swong my helment on my head, bumped the seat, and watched in horror as my baby rolled forward and crashed on the left side. Lost the clutch lever and scratched the bar end and case guard.
Moral: Park up-hill. There was a 1-2 degree downhill slope in the direction of the front wheel.
- Second & last time. Pulling the bike off my trailer, I decided to ride it down. Bonehead move. Worked well the other eight times I did it -- not the nineth time. Lost the brake handle and minor scratchs on the can, bar end and case guard.
Moral: Take it off the same way as putting it on. Hand on brake and balance it without my fat ass balancing on it while it rolls off the ramp.[/list:u]Lucky both times. Not too expensive to repair. Believe I've used up two chances to get away mostly unscathed. May not get a third chance.
Pardon me while I go stand in the corner and reflect on the injury I caused...
Good boy. Thank you for sharing.
I'd share, too, but in the first few weeks of owning our Baby G, I dropped him too many times to count. :P When I forgot to put the kickstand down was my most shining moment, though.
The other memorable time was captured on our surveillance system  My boyfriend saw me at the end of the driveway, and then I just disappeared. :? There's a considerable (for me) dip at the end of the drive, and if I go over it too fast or too slow, I'm in trouble. That time, it was too slow...and oooooooooover I went. Of course, that tape was played over and over (yes, I was    my boo-tay off, too...now you see her, now you don't!). I didn't hurt anything on the bike or myself, really.....but I do have a nice curly brake lever that I'm going to have to replace before I can take the ERC.
It took me some time to get used to the weight of the bike; in the beginning, once he started going down, he was going to go. Now I have a sense of when he feels as though he's tipping, and I can adjust. I haven't dropped him in months and months now.
I dropped mine the day I bought it (used). It had already been dropped a few times by previous owner, so I didn't feel so bad. I did end up replacing the ingnition cover on the right side, since it was pretty badly cracked. Join the club!

Hey Pandy, your driveway doesn't look anything like this, does it?

How does anyone let this kind of thing get built? Guess the lights were on but no one was home?

Naw...our driveway is flat....there's just a bit of a dip at the end....but THAT is darned FUNNY!!!
I've dropped mine twice, first time bumped a curb parking and fell over, scuff (harly noticable), second time i parked and hopped of the bike and she tips right over as i dismount.....Forgot to out the kickstand down. Needless to say i felt like a complete ass. It was funny though and no damage from that one to speak of cause i cought it and layed her down gently.
I dropped mine once attempting to put it on the centerstand, obviously before I mastered the process. minor scratch on the can and on the very end of the front brake lever.
One other time I was sitting on it for a few minutes, talking to my sister. When I was done I could swear I put the stand down and started to dismount. Then I got the feeling like "hey the bike is leaning kinda far to the left!?!?.. I managed to catch it and bring it upright. My beefy 135lb ;) frame somehow did the job and I must have pulled something important b/c I was hurtin for a couple days. Ahhh adrenaline does wonders!!
Off topic but how come guys refer to their bikes as females and females refer to theirs as males? I don't refer to mine either way for some reason... :dunno:

Years ago when I was in college we had a similar discussion in one of our classes. The instructor said it was possibly that if a man has something/someone bewteen his legs its most generally a female, and a woman most generally has a male.
Or that one sex thinks they control or cherish the other sex and that your possesions that you control or cherish are automatically related to the other sex.
Plus if your a man and name your bike after another man it sounds a little ghey.

I was called a "sexist pig" by some girl or other last week because I refered to my GS as "her".
How else would I refer to her? :dunno: After all she's hot, sexy, and I can't live without her!
When my husband and I bought my bike from a friend she told me that she named the bike Emma. So not only is my bike female but she has a name. :)
I'm the third female to own her. She is a 95 with 7,700 miles on her.
AND...cover your eyes Pandy....she is purple. My absolute favorite color.
Purplenurse
Most of my bikes have been female. The SV was male, and the GSX-R might be, too.
My brothers girlfriend once asked me the question why blokes refer to their cars/bikes as her/she? So to stir her up a bit I told her that all cars/bikes are female because if they were boys then they wouldn't give us any trouble.

Well since some people are also claiming to be nerds/geeks/geekette's lets have a little nerd test.
(Question 1) Please list as quickly as possible the first 10 digits of pie, (extra points if you have the first 25, 50, or 100) memorized.
(Question 2) What do the acronyms RAM and ROM mean, and describe the difference between each. (For extra points describe a circuit using standard AND, NAND, OR, or NOR gates that could be used as a RAM memory location.)
(Question 3) Correctly pronounce 5 spells from the Harry Potter books and describe exactly what they do.
(Question 4) In the Movie Star Wars, who does princess Laya say is her farther when interogated by Darth Vador? Extra points if you can name the planet that is destroyed by the Death Star in the same scene.
:)
Am I automatically a geek if I correct the spelling of pi, Leia and Vader? :(
0 points, yay!
Dave
I score points for RAM and ROM, but fail miserably at popular culture. :P
I wouldn't call things that only nerds know "pop culture." "Nob culture" maybe.

What secondary color is generated by mixing the two primary colors Red and Blue???? (hint uhhh I think it's your favorite color)????? Bonus points if you can tell the difference between primary and secondary colors. More bonus points if you can give a definition of color which explains how humans see color.
Come on Roadstergal, Im sure you could have gotten the bonus questions if you really tried.
2) Ram is random access memory (can be read/written many times)
Rom = Read only memory that can only be written once.
here is a URL that describes a possible solution to the bonus part:
http://www.play-hookey.com/digital/rs_nand_latch.html
Another bonus point to explain the difference between additive and subtractive color schemes, and the proper application for each.

alohomora - opens/unlocks things
accio - summoning charm
stupefy - knocks out, or disables an opponent
expecto patronum - creates a patronous to battle Dementors
crucio - causes someone extremem pain, this is an unforgiveable curse

Calculators are a girl's best friend! :P
Additive is the traditional pigment color scheme - start with primary colors, mix to get secondary. In this scheme, white is the absence of color and black is saturation of all.
Subtractive is what actually happens when we see color. In that, white light has all frequencies that we can see. A pigment will absorb some of them (subtracting them from the spectrum), and only reflect a subset of the wavelengths, yielding color. In this scheme, white is the saturation of all colors and black is the absence of color. Subtractive refers to what's actually going on with the light; additive is a convenience for painters.

Quote from: GSJamesStill dropped my bike though...
And now you know you're in good company!
Okay so the only way I think of color is the subtractive paradigm because that's what really happens when we see color. White is the presence of all colors and black is presence of no color. Mathmatically, a surface that is white reflects all colors (all color wavelengths) equally and black absorbs all color wavelengths and does not reflect any. Never thought about it the other way around? Thanks for the info though.
GSJames, sorry if I caused the topic to wonder. Hardware and software programming sounds cool! A 3D volume laser microscope what would one do with that? Generate 3D images of structures from the outside in? Also, what portion of the hardware are you working on, and are you writing custom software to run the microscope and generate/store/show the images?

Bwahaha!! No rain in the forecast (I could only WISH!!). It's been too hot for my taste: around 90. The forecast is for mid 80's. If you like it warm and dry, this should be a great weekend for ya'! :) And have a great time at GA!

Quote from: aevans17Okay so the only way I think of color is the subtractive paradigm because that's what really happens when we see color.
Additive color makes sense when you've got a dark surface and are shining different colored lights on it. Or if you're lighting up a dark surface some other way, like your monitor, which additively combines red, green, and blue.
Actually, he used additive color when he talked about the primary colors earlier. ;) It's a convention for pigments - paint and the like. It's easier to talk about adding red and yellow to get orange rather than talking about combining pigments that subtract all wavelengths but these two ranges to create a pigment with a combinatorial subtractive profile.
