I've heard of a small sound system stuck into a Vespa but has anyone ever seen it on a bike? Just curious.
On bikes like Goldwings. You can buy head sets that allow you to talk to each other and pipe into the radio on the bike. For us it's just an MP3 player.

i've seen few harleys with mean sound systems stuck to their gas tanks, might be worth a look.
bmw made a detachable all in one sound system for their little f650cs bike. it would mount in a storage bay type deal on the tank. be cool to find one of those and figure out how to mount it and wire it up.

Sell the GS and buy a scooter... you can stick a huge subwoofer in the underseat storage area. BOOM-BOOM!
Oh, and remember the neon and the spinner etc :?... BOOM-BOOM...

The one I saw showcased on the net was just aportable CD player hooked up to flat panel speakers and a larger battery, didn't really look like it fit the bike, the speakers were just hanging off some brackets on the rear, but it'd be pretty friggin cool to have on a meet night.

I work for a speaker manufacturer in Vancouver (WA, not BC), and we make a few models of battery-powered speakers for MP3 players. One that is out now and is cheap is this one:

You could easily hook that up to an MP3 player and stash it under your seat and have the speaker sitting on the seat or something. Just an idear. I could probably get some for a good deal.
Dave
Thats exactly what I mean, if you could build a pair of those into the rear fairing and have an MP3 player built in somewhere that'd be pretty friggin cool!
We could no doubt get something going. I'll take one of those home tonight and use it as a prototype. I'm thinking mounted under the seat and you could remove it to bump. Yes? No? I'm Dave Cummings?
Make a holder under there for the MP3 player, and you could run headphones in there and wear them under the helmet on long rides where hearing isn't as important as on a crowded city street or highway.
By the way, I call copyright, don't bite. ;)
Dave
I've seen a busa that was cranking out some tunes... I didn't bother to take a closer look but it belongs to a friend of a guy I work with. He was talking about hooking something up on his TL this winter...
I'm taking home a set of those speakers tonight and I'll work on putting something together.
Dave
Roadstergal.. It took me a sec to get why you posted that   :thumb:

I drove one of those yamaha cop cruisers and they have a huge dashboard with a cd player lol, I was cruisin pumpin the tunes.
I'm thinking the sound system could be used personally through headphones, maybe an extension that works its way up to the handle bars so you can plug in your phones there as well as a pair of speakers for when you're just out cruisin and want to have some music playing for you and everybody around you :)
iPod in a pocket with headphones running into your helmet?
Yah, I just use my MP3 player to one ear. I really don't like it when people blare their music with all their windows open. And with them leaning all back barely looking over the steering wheel. It just looks stupid. When ever I see someone like that I just stare and shake my head. :nono:
I have a Creative Labs Zen Micro. That thing is great. 5GB MP3 player, recorder, FM tuner, to do list, calender, ect. And it fits in the palm of your hand. :thumb:
OK, so I went out back tonight and tried to fit that speaker system into the underside of the seat. It was like .05 inches too wide to fit into the tool area down there. I think we have another model in stock that is slightly slimmer, and I'll try to grab one tomorrow. Fark, it would have been perfect, too. I hope the other one fits.

I beg to differ!

All plugged into a Starcom1 Intercom, gave me radio, phone, GPS, bike to bike and rider-pillion. A year, 16,000 miles (inc a 2,500 miles 2 week tour of France) and I decided I really needed a bigger, more touring orientated machine and got a BMW K100. Still that lil GS rocked for adaptability!
Steve
What, no CD player?
I velcroed my MP3 player to my fairing and I wear some earphones under my helmet. The type that fit over your ears, but with no band.
I knew one guy who mounted a speaker above the front fender of his bike, and put a small amp in the underseat storage area. It sounded good, you could hear him roll by on the street, or when he was near you on the highway.
It wasn't a GS, it was one of those honda VTwin sportbikes, but if he did it I'm sure there's a way to do it on a GS.
I can't wait to see what you come up with Dave, and if it something that works we'll have to work out some shipping details
I tried both of our mini systems, and they are each the same width, so no go there. But I am thinking that it could easily be mounted on or behind the rear grab handle. I'll work on it this week and see if anything comes of it.
Dave
Dave good luck with the mounting. All you would need after that is some sort of wire harness to connect to an MP3 player, and possibly connect some headphones. You could also build a small circuit in the wire harness that would connect the MP3 player to the battery since most MP3 players use 1 or 2 AAA's this won't drain too much juice.
Does anyone have one of these/listened to one:

This comes with a clock, radio, speakers, and headphone jack. If this is small enough to mount on the inside of the windescreen, then this could be the answer. I've never listened to one though so I can't vouch for sound quality.
Dimensions are 2-3/8"x7-1/4"x2-1/8"
I know not everyone does, but I occasionally wear a backpack for carrying stuff around. I just bought a $90 (On sale for $40) backpack from JC Pennys that allows you to put your mp3 player in one of the bottom side pockets, hook it up to a headphone jack extender inside that pocket, then plug your headphones right into one of the shoulder straps for the backpack. It works wonders for me. The backpack is made by Jansport if anyone is interested. The lack of being able to skip songs is a bit bothersome but it's a good thing I have great taste in music. 8)

Keep the GS, and pack it all into a sidecar, I say
tank bag with cd player in the map pocket with 50mm drivers in the lid. I also have a amfm radio that I pack in the tank bag.
