Hi everyone.
Been riding about a month now and making every mistake possible...
I rode into work downtown SF for the first time yesterday and the bike stalled at every stop sign/light and eventually died. E-mailed some friends and they said you are out of gas dumbass. You should be using the petcock on reserve. The bike had about 80 miles on the tank of gas so I was getting ready to do that but didn't think it was causing the problem.
Turns out when I put the valve on reserve she started up fine.
My question is this:
After I fill up the tank what should the petcock valve be set to? I can read the word reserve on there for when I'm almost out of gas, but I can't read what the rest of the settings say. I have a 92' GS500e. Currently I have the petcock facing straight down, not on reserve, but I can't read what the setting is. Can anyone help?
Thanks!
Down is ON (the normal position for riding and park), forward is RES and up is PRIme.
The petcock should be placed to ON after you fill up; and you should reset the tripmeter (knob on left side of speedo).
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
Have a look at Kerry's response in the Fuel switch which way??? (http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17821) thread. As usual he's right there with a photo and a story to solve most any problem.
