My dad had the kidney stone thing when he was younger. Cheer up, they might go away when you get to 50!

I wish that was true....
"The prevalence of kidney stones rises dramatically as men enter their 40s and continues to rise into their 70s." and I am 39 :(
dang man thats tough...
I was on a business trip last year and the co-worker i was travelling with called me at 4 am to ask me to drive him to a hospital. Now I knew by his voice that if a grown man calls you in the middle of the night to help him hunt the nearest hopsital that he was in PAIN. Kidney stones are some bad stuff...
Hope you get better soon :thumb:
They made a movie about this. It was good. You remember Romancing the Stone?

Glad they gave you good drugs!! :thumb:

If I was pissing out emeralds, I would be a very rich man.
Hope you feel better.

Diamonds and sapphires would be better, though. ;)
sharp edges on those gemstones . . .
Ow..don't wanna think about THAT part. Ow Ow Ow :(
Can they use some kind of ultra-sound too break up the stones? I still think I'd rather be cut open then pass a 3mm stone naturally. Good luck, and get well.
hope you get better man. My dad had kidney stones, side effect from diabetes, and I remember hearing the pain they caused him. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. Get well and hopefully one day they just go away forever.
Ouch! been there, Gallstones anyway. There are alternatives to surgery, Drugs, Laser, Ultrasound but like dgyver I had to go for the knife option. The good news is they are all gone along with the gall bladder but the bad news is sometimes I get "Ghost" pains which are bloody awful for five or ten minutes and knowing they are "Ghost" don't help a bit.
I hope you don't have to put up with that.
Sorry to hear about your condition dgyver. For having endured such pain for the past 20 years, I'm glad you're still able to keep such a good attitude. Best of luck to ya.
Hey time to get that harley I guess ... the vibes will break them up wont they ... Keep up the mind, its not life threatening ...
Cool.
Srinath.
Thanks eveyone.
Just got out of the doc's office. I am going to be scheduled for ultrasonic lipotripsy in 2 weeks. Just outpatient surgery. The stent should enlarge the tube to help the shattered piece flow out normally.
Stones are not life threatening in themselves but when they are large enough, they can get stuck in the ureter (the tube from kidney to bladder) and shut the kidney down....that can be very serious.
Not to mention that they hurt like a...well...you know. I hope everything comes out ok for you.
Sorry...I just couldn't resist.... :dunno:

Just discovered this thread Fri morning. I was going to ask if you were a candidate for the "sonic hammer" method. I've got female friend that deals with stones also. I happen to be in Greenville looking a one of my MRI systems when she had her procedure and gave her a ride home. She had good drugs and didn't trust driving herself.
I could tell you some OR stories about stone "manipulation," but it wouldn't help you feel any better. If you can stay away from the knife, or the stone grabber, you are WAY better off!
BTW, if you all want to know more about
lithotripters. I haven't worked on them, but they do use xray fluoroscopy to localize the stone so that the sonic wave has a target. It will beat you up a little due to the energy - no way as bad as a high side. It is still better than the knife or grabber.
Trying to stay away from the knife and the stone grabber. I know there are 2 different systems in G'ville. Don't know all the details about them. I am going to the one at St Francis. I was really please with the way I was treated there for the surgery this past Tuesday.
My MRI is St. Francis Downtown (old part of Greenville) and where my friend had her work. They do a great job of after surgery care. You will be fine. Let me know what day you are there and I will try to get by if in town.
