Title: HELP.. i think my ignition is shot
Post by: JoChan23 on August 31, 2005, 12:10:52 PM
so i hop off of my bike at the bank and go to turn the bike off and take the key out... im expecting the click of the ignitino going to off and then being able to pull the key out... but instead i hear a different click and now the key spins both directions while in the ignition and the bike is stuck on!  i rode it home and pulled the positive battery cable so i didn't kill the battery.. waht do i do... is this fixable, common, expensive?

help please

You already tried to turn the handlebars all the way to the left, and turn the key? Or, have the key in the On position and turn the handlebars all the way to the left, to see if the missing 'click' may happen? You've pushed in on the key and turned (<-that, I fear, is the real problem)?

I'm not a locksmith, and I forgot who was the locksmith here on the board (guess I could do a search on "locksmith").

He's a little far away: http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=164200#164200

i guess maybe it makes more sense to say that the battery is on.. as in.. you can turn the bike on... i can take the key out.. and i can still turn the bike on..

if i turn it clockwise ( as if turning the ignition to "0n" it stops where it normally does

if i turn counterclockwise (the way i did when it broke) it turns around and around and around and around and around.. ect.

makes no difference if i push on it or try to do the wheel lock

You broke the lock, not the ignition, methinks.  Locksmith time.

when you say lock do you just mean tire lock? because though i cant lock the  bars to the left.. i cant even get the battery to turn off

After talking to some people i have come to the conclusion that i need a whole new ignition switch... blueknyt do you have either of those still for sale?  the dealer wants 84 bucks for a new one with key... im tempted to just put a switch between the batteries + terminal and the + cable and hide it on the bike somewhere... not safe, but it is cheap...
