Title: GS gone.. 2000 VFR or CBRF4 or F4i?
Post by: etam on September 01, 2005, 06:14:26 AM
Ok...6000km later.. I sold my GS.. now looking for new bike.. looking at either 2000 VFR, F4 and F4i... which one is better?

they are all reliable, right? and I want fuel injection after GS.
2000 VFR here is around same price as a newer F4i (2001 or 2002)..
looks like a better deal??  2000 F4 is around C$600 cheaper.. should I worry about the carb engine of newer designed bike?

any suggestion? or other bike I should consider?  I thought about Speed4 and 599 but their resale value sucks here... new zx6r? gxr6?

thx

Depends on what you'll be using it for.

What do you mean by resale sucks?  Too high or too low?  Cause if the resale is low then that's the bike to buy, for cheap.  The 599 is supposed to be really nice, and Triumphs have flare.  Of the three bikes originally suggested I would recommend the F4i.  Newer bike w/ FI which you say you want.  VFRs have reputation for needing a lot of maintenance, or at least more than most Jap bikes.  I've heard that the F4 ergos are more relaxed than other 600SS bikes, so it'll probably be better for commuting than the GSXR or ZXR.  Good luck and good riding.

The GS is a good bike for saving gas.  Inline fours suck for mileage.  My GSX-R is getting about 35mpg.  Might as well have a car.

Get an FI SV.

there was a triumph speed4 with 2000km selling for whole summer in local car/bike magazine.. and finally got sold before I sold my GS...

and the 599 are pretty rare here in used market.. and people asks a lot for them.. I would rather get a little higher mileage f4 or f4i one..

SV in here is extremely popular because of lower insurance rate.. and people are asking ridicoulus high for it? if insurance change the rating.. then price will drop off a lot..

VFR high maintainence?? the only thing I heard is the valve adjustment every 16k and it can get expensive... and since it is heavy and it eats sport tires.. touring tire might be better...

still searching...

I want to try something newer.. instead of something designed 16yrs ago... my GS was almost 20,000mile.. better sell it before it depreciates to zero.

Well...  I have a '01 with 15K on it...  I use it to commute...  I honestly don't care to sell it ever.  If I want a new bike some day and the GS is worth more than $5.00, then I haven't ridden it enough.

Maybe you should get a newer GS with less miles. :dunno:

If you're looking for gas milage, the smaller the better.  A 90cc gets about 85 MPG...  The GS gets about 50 MPG...

If you want something faster and bigger, your milage is going to suffer.

fz6 is nice.. I like the twin under tail exhaust...but is that a throttle problem??
katana is old design engine.. and heavy.. and UGLY imo.
yzf600?? any 2nd gear problem? maybe f4 or f3 is better?

v-storm is a good choice.. not that many used around though..

And yes, Augusta?? do they ever sell in Canada??

Seriously - dude, get an SV.  It's a proven solid bike, fun, practical, good mileage, FI, etc.

I have a katana 750 that gets 42mpg. not bad consider it's old like you said....So my guess is that a 600 katana should be in the high 48+mpg. The SV650 gets about 45 from what I've read and the Z750s gets 38mpg. Most I4's are going to be right around the 40mpg mark. Hope that helps

I got 55ish mixed driving on my carbed SV, and got as high as 70ish on the freeway.  I'm getting 35 on my limited time on the GSX-R so far.

I've got a Speed Four, and the resale really sucks - that's why I bought it!  I got a 2004 for $4500 with 2,000 miles on it and it's still under warranty.  It is a definite head-turner, with plenty of power for me for now.  The handling in particular is a tremendous upgrade over the GS500.  However, I've gotten as little as 27mpg up to about 40mpg on it, so it really won't save you much gas.

I only average about 45mpg in my GS500.  I guess I like to stay in the powerband.

If you're using any of these to commute to save gas, I think you should factor in tire prices too.  It's possible your tire costs will make it cheaper to buy an economy car for commuting than a bike.

Yea, I wish I was 3 hours from ya man, heck I even put up with the damn nasty weather just to get my hands on this ... People think I am your shill now ... Far from it, OK fine I have turned ... usually people go from Suzuki to Kawasaki, I am in reverse gear then, started with Kawi, then went honda, then yamaha, then suzuki, didn't get a GS untill I had had atleast 1 of all 4 ... and bingo now I am a Yamaha fan. Dont get me wrong. Honda, suzuki, Yam and kawi are all in the list ... but I have new found respect for Yammies, and always liked the Maxims but owning one is an eye opener, after my chowder head friend last year let one burn (yea his house went up in flames and he saved his camera and let his maxim burn - Good call dodo) Anyway ... I suggest you run up and get it. Or I will ...   The 1000 miles one way is what is preventing me ...
Cool.
