Hi new to the group and have a question, I just bought a 92 GS500E for transpo to and from work (approx 140 miles a day) I have 75 mph interstate all the way each direction but my bike is acting fuel starved at around 6500 rpm in 6th gear, but will wrap out to 8500 9000 rpm in 5th before the same symptom sets in, It has been over 6 years since I have had a bike and I'm not sure what the problem is I think it may have sat for a few months and the carbs have varnished. I am trying some berryman carb and injector cleaner in this the first tank of gas I have bought can anyone help with some other suggestions?

Put the frame-mounted petcock in PRIME. This is a common problem with GS500s. Do a search, you'll find a ton of information on possible solutions. Some owners can't ever get their bikes to run with the fuel petcock in the ON position.
It's a buck and stumble, then a smooth power loss and it occurs at high speed in the upper gears, around town this morning in lower gears i have ran it up to 11,000 rpm in second and 3rd and never once had a stumble, and yes i rode it home on the interstate with the petcock in prime position and the problem occured, just been to the bike shop this morning to get a new set of filters oil and the all important speedo cable so that i don't get a black and white taxi ride so hopefully reducing air restriction will help. The original filter looks pretty rough but what do you expect when the previous 3 owners of the bike have been high schooolers. I am hoping the carb cleaner will work and that i wont have to yank the carbs to clean them.
My thought is:
If the new air filter doesn't fix it try running at high gear just below cutout rpm for a sustained period then stop immediately and check the plugs. White is too lean, black is too rich, should be somewhere in-between.

OK mhy filter finally came in and I replaced it and the plugs on general principal. The plujgs were not correct nor were they matching one was a ngk-7 and one was a ngk-9 when they're supposed to be 8's have ridden a likttle today but will know more monday when I hit the highway
