Took the GS down the 1/4 mile friday night, and it did about what I expected. I haven't really searched for it, but I hadn't seen anyone who had posted 1/4 mile times so I'll post mine. This was my 1st time runnin at the track at all so with a different[better] rider times would obviously be a bit better. I got 4 runs in, and this is on a stock 2005 GS500F.

There they are, I think the gs could definately pull a 14.7et maybe even a 14.6et if I could get a better r/t, launch better, and hit all my shifts :dunno:, but let me know what ya'll think, or let me know if any one else has better results on a stock gs, or even w/ mods. I'm just sort of using this as a baseline, to see how the mods improve, plus to see my improvement.

I have nothing to contribute for ADVICE, but I appreciate the information.
Nice to see how you improved on each run; your reaction time was off on the second run, but you're learning, and you REALLY improved on the last trip down the track.
Keep a log of the changes you make (tire pressure, suspension changes, amount of fuel in the tank), and post the results next time you hit the dragstrip. I'm curious to see what effect those changes will have...

My best was 14.789s, going out again this week to give the bike a run now that the carbies are sorted out. Mechanic said the last time they were worked on the guy didn't put one of the needles in properly :o
Bike was pretty much stock last time except for the dodgy carbs. Also had a full tank of fuel. Hoping to knock a few 10th's off that time Wednesday :thumb:
A guy over here has run a 14.245s with his stock (pretty sure it's stock) 2003 model.
I have a 2003 model with drilled pilots in the carbs, i'd be curious given proper launch what I could do. Shifts wouldnt matter aslong as I shift at the right point since I dont use clutch so I would actually gain time there.

with proper shifting a good launch, ur 60's are horrible they should be sub 2.0sec ur not launching hard or shifting too early

Search for "Race Report" to see my old times. Haven't posted anything lately. Mine runs about 14 flat nowadays with 33,000 miles and never even a tuneup or valve adjustment.

i knew my main problems were the launches and r/t's. I was shifting at 10,500rpm. I dont really know what rpm to launch from though. The last run i launched pretty high probabaly around 7,000rpm, and wheelied of the line. that was pretty much my best launch, that was the one were i beat the kawi 900 off the line pretty good, but there is no replacement for displacement, at least when its between 500cc and 900cc. :dunno:

I always though r/t does not effect your e.t.
Get that 60 foot time down some more and you'll see your times drop. Trap speed might go up more but I'm not sure you should expect too much
Good times though, you are very consistant on your launch and 1/8th mile, just play with launch rpm's and clutch a bit to bring it down.

RT does not affect your ET as the clocks don't start until your front tire rolls out of the beam. RT is one of the largest determining factors when you're racing brackets as there is a handicap involved. The dial ins of both bikes are adjusted so that the racers SHOULD cross the line at the same time, all other things being equal. The quicker reaction time then wins the race. This is extreme over-simplification of course....
I stage my GS at 5,000 and launch at ~7,000 and as you noted, wheelies are common :thumb: (there's no "hell yeah!" smiley). I've found the best 60ft on the GS is had when you get the clutch engaged as quickly as possible, while feeding in as much throttle as is possible (roughly 3/4) and keeping the front suspension at max extension without lifting the front wheel. It's dicey but looks cool when you goof with too much clutch and the front end goes sky high :mrgreen: You should have the clutch out within the first 3/4 second and be at full throttle immediately following that.
I've also found maybe .75mph by standing with my rear almost off the seat and letting the GS scoop me away off the line. This lets the bike get part of a tire revolution's worth of steam going without you on it but it's difficult to do this without a wheelie. I'm still experimenting with this one..
