Title: maintenance
Post by: rich on September 05, 2005, 02:15:39 PM
I have an 04 gsf with 9,400 miles on it. At 3,500 I had valve adjustment, carb cleaning and other stuff done. Always change my oil every 2,000 miles. I put a new tire on back BT45 and new back brakes no more squeaking. Question is how often do you maintain your gs.

Valve adjustment,
Carbs,
Oil change

I do valve adjustments, carb synchronization and oil changes all at every 4000 miles.

Yea 3-4K ...
You let too much maintenance slide and pretty soon you're looking at more work than the bike is worth ...
If you had carbs, valves, brakes, fork seals, tires and a battery that needs fixing/swapping out ... yea you're looking at a $12-1500 bill ...
Cool.

I put 2K miles on my bike a month... What happens if I don't do those things every 4K miles (valves and carbs every 2 months??  :? ) The oil change I recognize as crucial, but can I stretch it out on the valves and carbs? Actually, I've never done anything with the carbs (have had the bike for a year now). I'm a bad mommy.  :o

Bring your bike to me tomorrow after work and I'll perform the vacuum synchronization.

Carbs dont need work every 4K ... once set up right ... with consistent use they'd remain good for literally ever ... Oil, valves, brakes, tires, chains and fork seals as well as some others like bulbs, fuses etc ... are consumables ... use it and its done, heck, dont use it and its still done ... Regular light use is better than none at all ...
Cool.
