Title: Anyone bidding on a GS500 gauge cluster recently?
Post by: GSJames on September 06, 2005, 09:07:02 PM
I just got it, but had to fight my way through the whole auction process to get it!

$234.25 US is not cheap:

Still on my quest to restore it to original condition...

Wow. I was watching that one for a while and lost interest. Never bid on it though. Although cheaper than new hardware, it ended up on the high side for these items.

Now I am going to make you mad, sick, upset (fill in your condition) by showing you this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4544584479).

Right place, right time. What can I say?  :dunno:

GSJames, I went down to Sonic Cycle and Salvage in London to get myself a speedo. (Mine was doing the wobble needle - completely busted at ONLY 48,000km!) They would only sell the speedo with all the other parts you just got yours with. No big deal; just now, I've got an electric tach that I can't use.

The speedo/tach set is for a 2004, and I own a 2000.

FYI, at the dealership:

$450 for a new tach for 2000 and later
$400 new speedo (2000 and later again)

~ $200 for the rest of the stuff; cover plate, electrics, idiot light array, and all the hardware.

You still got a deal :)
BTW, I got mine for $300 (Before taxes)

I will be selling a set of gauges pretty soon

The only thing is that the metal plate they are mounted in is powder coated red

Other than that they are mint with about 5k miles on it

 Yep, I hear you.  I made sure to call the dealership to make sure there was a deal.  And local wreckers seem to think they're doing you a favour by charging 50% of the dealership prices (which is still ridiculous)

I actually also bought the left and right side panels for the bike for $10 each from the same guy.  The panels are $300 each from Suzuki, and $150 each from the wreckers.

I'm paying about $350 for the whole package: gauge cluster and side panels, including shipping.  I figure I did alright.  :)

If any of you have salvagable rear plastic backing, I am in the hunt.  Mine got cracked pretty badly in a minor little scrub I had...
