Title: Help Needed For Painting Gas Tank
Post by: tbblizzard on September 10, 2005, 02:43:37 PM
I've searched for remove gas tank and I haven't had any luck. I'd rather hear a method on removing the gas tank before I actually do it.

I'm trying to tank the gas tank off so I can sand it down and repaint it. I took all the stickers off except for the one on the gas tank (looks like its clear coated over). Any help?

yep it's clear coated over. for tank removal see Kerry's valve shim video it's covered in there, or for pics see his or Pablo's web pages.

if you want it to look the same color, you could lightly wet sand with 600 or finer sandpaper, and then re-clear coat it.... :dunno:

removing the tank is simple. pull the seat, pull the rear fairings, pull the 2 bolts on either side of the rear of the tank. slide it back off the neck of the bike. Carefully turn it over and turn off the tank petcock (on the bottom of the tank, set it in the middle, it will be on either side of the stop. Pull the hoses, remember where they go. done.
