Well, I talked to a buddy of mine about the symptoms I've been having, and it was his opinion that it was the result of a lean condition. So I pulled the plugs and found this:

So the right cylinder plug was white. So I think the carb's not mixing right.
Taking apart things on my way there (images here: http://jayee.dyndns.org/remoteimages/carbquest/ I'm planning on making a tutorial page on getting to the carb and cleaning it so I took some pictures.) I came across the airbox, and this hoze coming from it on the bottom that goes nowhere? Oh, also found out I have a "UNI" foam filter, whatever that is. I plan to put it back to the stock one. Anywhere here's the airbox with the bottom hoze attached:

Is it not supposed to be connected to anything? Is it a way for water and moisture to seep out? Or is this broken? It doesn't look right. :dunno:
Nope it just stick out the right side bottom.
its to let the shaZam! out and keep shaZam! from gettin in. its normal. mine come out by the foot peg
Hah... Well it's not doing too great a job... I took apart the carb, and found strange white clay-looking stuff all over one of the diaphragms, the carbs are quite dirty. As well, there's oily stuff on the inside of the airbox. I don't really trust this filter - it looks like it's made of cheap and very porous foam.
I am going to replace it with a stock, factory-made air filter. That brings up a good question actually - when people get these UNI "performance" ( ) filters, does it require re-jetting the carbs? (I ask cause I want to know if I have to get the right jets after I put in a stock filter)

Oh, and you gotta work on your site man :P
yeah you should re jet it. they are really crappy foam filters. get the k&n stock replacement, it's a oem replacement and is a lifetime filter as opposed to the stock 4000 mile paper one.
I should rephrase the question.
If someone put in this filter, would they have to re-jet the carbs for it? I want to know if I put in a more restrictive filter (stock paper, or K&N even) whether I can keep these and it will run fine, or should I buy factory ones because the jets were (likely) changed.
no it will run halfway decent with that filter. so they probably didn't rejet it, but there is no way to tell untill you pull the carbs off.
I've already done that, and disassembled the carbs. How do I tell?
Just looks like some flathead screws with some holes through them, you know?
There's a bunch of pics I took of the process here:
http://jayee.dyndns.org/remoteimages/carbquest/
But unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the jets themselves. I will do that tomorrow, if it will help.
The jets have little numbers stamped on the side facing you. The stock main jets should have 122.5 stamped on them and the pilots should have 37.5.

If you are lucky it has been rejetted. It will run better if the pilot is a 40 and the main is a 125 - with the stock factory filter - than it will with the stock jets. It will worm up quicker and have a dmall amount more grunt. Note that this assumes that your bike is a pre-2001 model. Post 2001, different carbs, different jets.
Well... Did the carb cleaning thing, replaced the UNI with a Suzuki paper filter, and reassembled the bike. She ran!
Problem is, attempting to solve the lean condition, didn't solve my original problem (a buzzing TAK-TAK-TAK sound when I rev it).
It probably IS the cam chain tensioner... I'll basically have to re-do all the work I did, taking off the carb to get to the tensioner. :x It took me like 3 hours to put it back together again, partly because it was my first time, but mostly because I did it in the dark under a porchlight. Which was stupid.
