My initial problem with the bike is that it wouldn't idle properly and was running only on one cylinder half the time. So I took apart the carbs and cleaned them, there was a lot of rust in the float bowls.
Anyway, after I put everything back together, the engine idled fine, but pretty high at about 3k rpm. At idle, the bike revved up easily all the way to 10k rpm. However, once I put it in first gear, the revs drop to 1k and seem to be not getting enough fuel. I had the hold the throttle open wide while releasing the clutch slowly moving off otherwise the bike would stall. Once I got moving, the highest rpm i got was 5k rpm and that was with the throttle fully open.
I have spent a lot of time and I don't want to bring it to a mech now. Help!!
i had a similar problem after a carb cleaning i did, in my case it was the spring that pushes the slide down on my right carb. my advice, take it apart again, and re assemble very carefully, replacing o rings and gaskets if worn as you go. take time.
good luck.
Did you pinch the fuel hoze going to the carb? Did you connect all your hoses correctly? Vacuum too?
And the rust you saw - I saw that too when I cleaned my float bowls, I'm not sure it's rust but rather the floats deteriorating after years (they're a brownish colour too right) so I think that its plastic crap that accumulates there.
double check your vaccuum connection and that your fuel hoses are connected properly.
Check to make sure you still have the little o-rings that are underneath the black plastic covers of the carbs.
Thanks guys.
I am gonna try redoing the fuel hoses and I am probably gonna replace all the hoses with clear vinyl hoses. What is spec for the vaccum tube? Anybody know?
