Well as you may or may not know we are suddenly having hosting issues. The site could be taken down at any time, as it was a couple days ago. So, there could be a sudden disruption of service. We're on it. Tonight Manjul & I are going to discuss some options as to where we will move.
If the site goes down it will be temporary. gstwin.com will still be up so you can always check there to see what the status of the forum will be.
I hope we are allowed to stay up till we switch servers, but I am getting a bad feeling my host is about ready to throw the switch.
ps. Yes I am making backups twice a day so the forum database will be in tact after the move.
Sorry for the problems, but thanks for working so hard to keep us up and running!!!!!!
and pm me your cell # so i can call and harrass you every time something is messed up.

Eh. It was only a matter of time. Don't worry, we'll try to keep the switch problems down to a minimum.

No, he didn't. He sent you back the secret handshake!
Have a nice day! :nana:
Thanks for keeping us informed about the transition. It sucks that it happened so rapidly though.
Speaking as a BeginnerBikes.com refugee, I appreciate all you do John (and Manjul, where ever you are). It's nice to call a place like this home. Would hate to start all over -- this forum stuff gets under your skin and is a great place to learn and share.
(And even people like davipu are welcome, if for no other reason than to see who gets to "pooh" on them. )
Ride safe, whatever ever road you're on... (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/redshift/Ride.gif)
was talking with Manjul abit myself, discussing that if you or he would consider settingup a small lowend linux box on a home network and useing a REdirect service to point everything to that box. it might be abit easyer to maintain. hell i can probly slap together a motherboard, cpu and mem for the cause, i dont have an extra case nor drives to spare but im sure some others would be willing to kick in a few bucks to help make a reliable server that can be easely gotten too and maintained.
even an AMDk6 2 450, 256 ram, and say couple large HDrives would be plenty to run the forum. the HDrives would be the bigest cost i think. im sure everyone would be willing to live with slower speeds just for the reliablity.

while a K6-2 will be fine, but in reality its not a server issue, its teh damn webhost.. as someone else pointed out, they arent managed really well. I doubt a site like this with 90% text can take down a server.. in anycase i got some spare servers and hdd's at home. A cable bandwidth might be a bit slow, but i have hosted a site before (phpbb) way back on a 128kb upload.. it worked but was slow.
Switching to a better host will fix the problem.
Yes. And that's just what we will do. Manjul is privy to all GStwin's secrets -bandwidth, hits, who comes in, who goes out, who's naughty. who's nice. He's kinda like santa clause
Seriously, Manjul will be looking at the logs and stats and all that stuff and then shop for a host. He speaks the lingo, he knows what's up. He can size up a host properly, where I can't. He will make sure the next host won't be a problem (as best he can). I also asked him to help transfer over the server files so there is no chance of me screwing it up.
You have no idea how glad I am Manjul threw a nutty on my web host last Tuesday. They tried to BS him and he called them on it. I/we would have been screwed. :o So he's the reason we're still here at all. We owe him a big thank you.
THE GOOD PART: When Manjul finds a host that he feels can easily handle the load, we may, MAY, be able to add a chat room to the mix :thumb: Already spoke about it.
ps. Manjul: You talk too damn fast  You're gonna make a great lawyer  :thumb:
but thats my point, how much worse could the overall service be (even bottle necked bandwidth) if the server was on a home network under someone's desk at arms reach. the donations/sales gathered would only help that more

Excellent...now we know whom to send our Christmas lists to! :thumb:

:thumb: Well..I mean..this won't affect me much, since I'm one of the
QUIET ones, but I'm happy for the chatty cathy'z here!

Fellow Gs500 Owner (and hater due to it not running right at the moment)
Been getting alot of these error messages lately when trying to come into the Board:
phpBB : Critical Error
Error creating new session
DEBUG MODE
SQL Error : 1114 The table 'phpbb_sessions' is full
INSERT INTO phpbb_sessions (session_id, session_user_id, session_start, session_time, session_ip, session_page, session_logged_in, session_admin) VALUES ('15adeb8932f7944614c799cf7c2fef36', 32, 1135806772, 1135806772, 'c3e519f6', 0, 1, 0)
Line : 172
File : sessions.php
I guess this is just a really popular place and people are waiting in line to get in. lol
JamesG - I've been getting them a lot lately too. Almsot more often than not. :dunno:
Sorry. It looks like I'm breaking it again. :(
yea, i've gotten pretty often too. :x
the default number of maximun sessions that the forum can have is 550. that's 550 different instances of browser viewing the forum at same time. now, i know we don't have nearly that many members browsing at same time. i don't see how we get this error unless someone is flooding the session table or the max number has been lowered significantly.
Or there is a "hole" in the board code that isn't timing out sessions and/or updating the table...
