Title: wavy brake rotors - functional or just pretty?
Post by: thirdman on September 16, 2005, 02:47:31 PM
What is the deal with the wavy-edged brake rotors?  Is that just for looks, or do they claim it has some functional purpose?  Cooling, maybe?

Wavy edge?  You have a pic?

Most likely for cooling...   :dunno:

Surprisingly enough, that's actually a functional feature. It has to do with rotaional energy and rotational momentum. Basically, since there is less weight at the edge of the rotor, it takes less force (and therefore torque) to rotate the rotor (and therefore the wheel). They are lighter, as well. Form + Function!

Plus, when they get too thin you can remove them and use them as a circular saw blade!!
