Title: Fixed bike... broke ego
Post by: GSJames on September 16, 2005, 04:08:16 PM
Remember all my posts about lean this, tension that...  Appreciate the responses...

The problem with the noise...

NO OIL IN THE ENGINE!!!!!  :x

I thought I checked it weeks ago when the noise started, but maybe didn't do it right or the stick rubbed against something oily.

I decided to "top it up" today, and when I checked it there was no oil on the stick.  I kept topping it up bit by bit (like half a liter at a time), in my head thinking: "what..... " pour pour... "the....." pour pour... "f....." cause I'd probably only gone about ~1500k since I changed it for the first time since owning it.

Lesson learned.

Makes me wonder why the Oil level light didn't trip on? Is the bulb good?

you have to get down to about half a Qt for the pump pick up to quit sucking, then when the pressure drops the light comes on. untill then it just runs really hot.

The bike does run quite hot.

I don't have a gauge cluster (but I ordered one!) - so no light :(

And actually - that noise problem that I've been having has come back after I started going for a ride - TAK TAK TAK when the engine is revved up some.

Hope to get it figured out before end of season...

Common misconception. The light is for oil *pressure* only and will only light if the pressure drops below a certain amount. You can still get decent pressure with low oil levels, but it's certainly not good for the bike.

Just to finish off this post... I attempted to ride the bike somewhere thinking the TAK-TAK might not be that bad.  Then it got worse, lots more noises.

I attempted to ride it home, then the motor stopped.  I think I seized a piston or something, because I can't push the bike at all when it's in gear.

The bike doesn't turn over, I think the motor's dead.  I suppose the next step is removing the motor and fixing it if it's possible.

Hope to ride in spring...
