I have been thinking about my next bike, which will be in the spring, and 3 bikes come to mind....SV650s, Bandit 600s, or a Katana 600/750
I really like the Bandits though, too bad they quit selling them over here.
Go for the 'Busa! :thumb:
;)
I'm not sure when they quit selling the Bandit 600 here, but I know they were made in '99, if that's not too old for you. You might also want to look at the FZ-6, or 599, if you're looking for new(er) bikes.
I just test rode my bf's '05 FZ6 yesterday. Niiiiiice. Love the fuel injection. Don't love the clunky shifting in 1st & 2nd (didn't get up higher since I was just giving it a test in a huge parking lot). Also, I had to get on tippy-toe to touch the ground.
The motor purrs like a kitten, though. And the power....Muahahahaha!!!
I'd say go for the SV650, but I'd buy a used one because I'm partial to the silver frame. I don't like the new black one.
I rode a 800 interseptor the other day it was sweet and quick.

I say check out the new kaw z750s its real nice sat on one the other day it felt perfect. Just my two cents good luck.

B12 are 5199 each for 03 and 04's around here.
Sv 1K's were 5999 for the S model ... And B6/12's are there ... even through 05 ...
Cool.

so which type of french fries does everyone like???

I believe its a 1050 now ... not 955 anymore.

Since you're interested in fairing-clad bikes, you might also want to consider the Yamaha YZF600R and the Kawasaki ZZR600. Both carbureted, snapshots of early '90's supersport bikes so they cost less, yet sit a bit less agressively and go as quick as they look.
I also agree with Pandy's recomendation. The Yamaha FZ6 feels like the GS500's bigger cousin, with similar ergos yet up-to-date everything else. Clunky tranny and lack of suspension adjustments were negatives, but it still looks sweet. :thumb:
It helps with the recs for you to tell us what you don't like about the GS, and what you want the new bike to do differently.
I bet he wants faster, while maintaining reasonable insurance rates and reasonable purchase price. Something faster than Neons, Cavaliers, and the like ;)
I'd buy a Busa. Why not?

Yea, I dont like the newer ones  The guage cluster is too naked, and the look is much better on the pre 04's ( I think thats when they changed)
Whatever bike you choose, check out the cost of Insurance before you decide to buy it. That could avoid a sad end to an otherwise happy day.
My favorite french fries came from Central Park, but :( sadly they all seemed to go out of business around here. On the bright side :) Sonic's fries are almost as good.
I test rode a bandit 600 in about '03. I was disapointed in its lower rpm torque (or lack there of). I wouldn't trade the GS for one.
Those Z750's do look sweet.
Katana's have not changed much over the years except in appearance. They are about the same vintage as the GS. The 750 has a very nice riding position.
A friend had a '98 YZF600R and he was very happy with it. It was one of the best 600's you could buy at that time.

We have a winner!!!!!!!
REASON #1 I want a faster (1/4 mile) bike.
REASON #2 1997 to 2000 year Suzuki (blue, black, or silver in color).
REASON #3 Cheaper Insurance($800 to $1000 a year for full coverage) The SV was more than a 600 Bandit or 600 Katana :dunno:
REASON #4 Cheaper cost of the bike. $1500 to $4000.
And yes it would be nice to actually have a bike that is faster in the 1/4 mile than my Neon. :thumb:

$2400 a year for full coverage is totally ridiculuos for one bike. That is 6 times what I am paying now. If it were not for that there would be one on my front porch instead. ;)
This one would be nice if the nearest dealer was not 60-70 miles away

Or the new 650 Kawasaki but I think I'm sticking with Suzuki
But I don't think I'm going to buy another new bike. A used one in good shape or get a fixxer up one and play around. :dunno:
Time will tell, I have all winter to think.
I personally am not a fan of the katana
A naked SV might be kinda cool
I do like that triumph thruxton its sexy
For me it would have to be a GSF600S or SV650S. Gotta have the fairing.
I've seen numbers posted for stock GSs that are faster than 14.8 for the 1/4 mile (14.7ish and 14.3). :) I did the numbers once, and with me on it, the power/weight ratio of my GS500F was better than a stock BMW E36 M3. So it ain't bad.
I think the Katana is a dandy option, if the full fairings are a must. You'd need to get aftermarket lowers for an SVS, and I'm waffly on any that look right short of race plastics that are a set.
Having an upper fairing is a must for me. The lowers would be nice but they are not a must have item.
Have you had lowers? I've discovered that I really, really like them. I like my legs being protected from wind and debris and rocks, not to mention dirty water when it's raining.
I've had full fairings (on the F) and full naked (on the E). I'm converting the F to an E. I think you know where I stand on the matter.

It will still be an "F", just an unfaired one :thumb:
My bike is a F model and has the full ones
For some reason, I thought you had an E. Shows what I know. :P
