hey Dingo,
did you make the advancer your self or did you buy ?
if you made yourself do you still have all the dimensions.
it doesn't look like it would be to hard to fabricate with a lathe, mig welder and some filing.

do you have any pics posted of your beast ?

Hi Paul,

I have just sold the '96 GS to a mate.  I did the following mods whilst I owned her:

1. Installed progressive springs into the front forks (def worth doing, esp if you are installing dual front brakes)
2. Timing advance, just follow the DIY instructions somewhere around here on how to modify the pickups' mounting plate and advance the timing (def worth doing)
3. Installed a tinted F-16 screen (took most of the windload off my chest)
4. Drop in K&N, I sourced the K&N pod but with the stock exhaust I couldn't get the response through the entire throttle range right with jetting (she did pull harder in the higher rpm range with the pod filter).  I still have the pod if you are interested in buying it.

Cheers

Conrad,
so you recommend the timing advance ?
what difference could you feel ?
what does the f-16 screen look like and how much is it ?
How much are the progressive fork spirings ?
How much do you want for the pod ?

i know that some of the yanks have a fabricated timing advancer and i believe that with the dimensions it would be easy to fabricate. if i can get my hands on that info i can make these.

Hey Spirit33,
welcome  :thumb: . I own an blue 04 nude one. She is stock and I will probably keep it that way because I will most likely be trading her in when I'm off the Ps for a GSXR   . My only problem with the bike is that the front suspension is way too soft. Apart from that very happy with the bike.
Take it easy.

that seems to be the most common complaint about the gs with good reason. i have put 10w fork oil and 3 20 cent pieces in each fork. this has helped a little bit. still not as good as replacing springs. the clip ons i made have meant i could drop the forks some more. have the top of fork about 35mm above triple clamp. steering is much nicer.

take care on your p's. practice your basics before you get to carried away and you should be fine. oh, and never confuse confidence with ability.

Paul                                                                                                         like conrad said look in search for DIY timing advance its an easy job mate ,makes a big differance (7000rpm +) watch what you do with carbs_air box aussie gs is different to yanks could make it worse !                                                                                                    6 bob in your forks is like half a snag at a bbq, you need about $2.50! +15weight oil .I dont have any pictures yet maby this weekend

There was a guy from Tasmania, a medic, who used to post a lot, I think his name was Michael, might be worth checking out the memberlist.

Spirit,

Here are some photos of the bike with the screen.  AMC sell these for about AU$160 (http://www.amcmotorcycles.com.au/).  You can find the larger pictures in the GSTwins gallery at http://www.gstwins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=2&page=13

The timing advance helps the low end response of the GS so she pulls off the mark a bit better - best thing is it is free and easy to do by modifying the mounting plate's holes.

For the progressive prings I used 'Progressive Springs', the price was about AU$120 from a local dealer here in Brisbane and I changed the fork oil to 15W at the same time (pretty easy job to swap out).

I will PM you about the K&N pod filter.

Cheers,
Conrad
