Title: a question of color!
Post by: Maduro Mistress on September 21, 2005, 11:16:07 AM
If your bike could be ANY color (yes, even purple) or any 2 colors (regardless of offerings) what would you have it be?

I for one would LOVE a white bike. I know what white wheels look like though after a commute (shudder) I would hate to think how dirty a white bike would get, BUT I would still like one.

Sigh. Who does the marketing for these damn companies?

My '89 is just the way I like it. White w/white wheels. The factory blue graphics on the plastic side panels break up the "mass" of those big "modesty" pieces. I've run w/o those side panels and tail pieces and hardware, and though I think it makes the bike look "lighter", all those exposed pits and pieces make it look too much like a "rat bike". Now I've seen some rat bikes that I've really liked, but simply taking the side and tails pieces off a GS500 do not make it a rat bike.  As this bike has aged, I've grown even fonder of its appearance.

For me, it depends on the bike. I'll assume we're talking about the GS only here. I'd love to have a non-metallic gloss black with only the "Suzuki" text on the tank. The "Perl Novelty Black" that my bike is right now has too much metallic and blue in my opinion. I put on a coat of wax the other day on the GS, but before buffing it off, I kinda liked the way it looked with the flat black finish. I like the gunmetal finish on the wheels so I'd keep that, but I'd also add the little red stripe on the wheel like the one that can be found on the R1 wheels (http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/products/modelimage/6/7/0/image.aspx).

I actually want to put that red pinstripe on the wheel sometime soon so I'll probably be posting something asking for help on this.

QuoteYellow with black
+1 to Yellow.  Also, I thought the '05 F4i in silver was really sharp.

As for white:  I used to have a white car and when it was clean it looked very clean, but when it got dirty it looked extremely dirty.  The problem was that it got dirty about 10 minutes after I washed it.  :(  I later got a black car...similar problems, but it seemed to stay cleaner looking longer (plus it looked much better after it was waxed).  My grey car just looked dirty all the time.  Now I've got a dark blue one, which doesn't seem to suffer from the black/white problems.  As a result, I probably don't wash it as much as I should.

A few years ago, the BMW M3 came in one of the finest colors I've ever seen on a car.  Looking at it, it appeared black, but actually it was very, very dark purple...when the light hit it just right it looked fantastic.  Definitely a double-take-mobile.  Not sure it would look good on a m/c though.

The same as an 04'F, but do away with the white tail, make it blue... kinda like the 05's... but minus the white ass front... looks like crap...  - I'm picky...

I like maroon/red on Hondas.  Medium blue on most everything else.  Yellow looks good too, depending on the body style.

Black on black.  Keep all the currently black stuff shiny black and paint the rest a nice matte black (frame, wheels, etc).
Title: Blue

My #1 is the 91 blue with silver and taces of red.
#2 is 89 white.
#3 is black - but for practicality and body bit swap etc ... that black is the best ...
Cool.

A tastefull use of both matte and gloss black similar to a Ducati monster dark.

That would be sweet.

Orange and black.  Black front fender and orange wheels.  Orange tank and plastics.

Black tank stickers.  Silver engine and frame.  Silver grab handle.   Black headlight bucket.  Orange guages.

If there is this set up, it would be dope.

I agree with groff22, a blue 04 with the blue rear frame covers from an 05.  Not sure why Suzuki decided to screw up the rear end of the 04's and the front ends of the 05's.   :dunno:

I like black with red accents.  When and if i do a lot of damge to one side or the other, currently only a minor scrape from parkinglot tip over  , I plan to repair, prime and repaint my entire bike.

Mine is blue & silver, if I could have any colour combination I would have blue & silver, my Honda was blue, my Lambretta was blue, heck all my bikes have been blue except the old Yammy project which looks kinda right in black.  (see below)

Silver and blue or Silver and black.

As long as we are talking about only two colors I'm fine.

When you start combining 4 and 5 on pupose, I begin to like it less.

I think that I would really like to do a dark grey with some black accents. just like "eleanor" (the mustange from Gone in 60 Seconds). I really like how the paint looks on that car. http://www.platinumrides.com/eleanor.html
and I'd do the 3 spokes on the wheels the same grey with either a black or polished rim.
I'd love to do that, but my second choice, witch I think I'll end up doing is a nice gloss black with old scool red and white pinstripeing. that with a black frame, and black wheels, and that same red stripe on the rims that someone ealse was talking about. I saw those red wheel stripes on a CBR600RR and it looked so good, I couldn't beleive it.

If we are rooted in things I'd like that I might actually get,  I really like bluebellylint's bike.  I'd want a 'tectured' (not quite rhino liner) roughness, with the silver or shiny black frame, charcoal 5 spoke rims w/ brilliant silver along the edge of the rim, "Suzuki" and "GS500E" decals in brilliant silver, but without graphics (just the words, but in a cool font) maybe a little blue or red incorperated in the decals.

Now if we are getting creative  :)  ...

Custom metalic carribean sea blues, with painted Grean Sea Turtles and kelp in metalic greens, w/ metalic silver for accents.  Think about the scene in "Finding Nemo" with all the sea turtles, except instead of cartoony turtles they'd be kick-ass turtles (It would be a real work of art.)  chrome frame, rims, engine, and exhaust (which would by look like straight pipes on a chopper, or under-tail).  Rims either spoked or like R-1 rims.  Hugger, painted to match paint scheme, and a half-fairing somewhere between old SVS and new SVS (rounder edges than new, but more aggressive looking than old) w/ Triumph Sprint style HID headlights also painted to match.  Black solo seat, and the rear cowl would be incorperated into the mural (obviously).  Incorperated LED brake lights.  Front fender would be a little bigger (not longer, but deeper meaning it would wrap around the wheel more) and incorperated into the mural.  That's more or less my dream GS (my dream bike), I can see it in my dreams, but I'm not sure if anyone else will be able to see what I see in my head.

Heck yeah!  That sounds really cool!  I think it would come off the best with chrome spoke wheels (have to be much wider in the back than stock, though).  Not sure about the chrome straight pipes.  Stick with the big Wileyco or do the undertail.

That paint scheme sounds really cool!  And that is surprising to me.  So different.

Since I'm limited to two colors, I'd choose a black tank, frame, sliders, swingarm, handlebars, headlamp bucket, mirrors and grabrail; and white plastics, fender and rims. And if chrome is not considered a color, everything else would be chrome (I would really hope my forks would be chrome, I don't think a painted surface would slide well).

While I'm rather taken with Metallic Abyss Blue on a silver frame and wheels, I can't help but agree with:

and the others that agree with him.  There's something about Yellow that just says "look at me!!".   :thumb:

Pearl White GS500. Mag wheels (NOT WHITE). Stainless steel or chrome front fender. Twin trumpet pipes (chromed)(2 into 2) coming up the right side (NOT CANS).
Side round plate done in mirror stainless with the large Suzuki "S" stamped in it.
Very light pinstriping on tank and sides with a large Suzuki S on tank.
I have a feeling those trumpet pipes are gonna be VERY expensive to fabricate............but I am looking for them..........oh yes and a nice Corbin seat with a dead Coon-hide (Head attached) slung over the Corbin for the driver to sit on in this hot ass Louisiana weather 10.5 months out of the year. Pure bliss................I'm getting excited..............just thinking about my "modified" 500E. Still dreaming.

Something I have always wanted to do, but have been too lazy, is to cover a bike entirely in black 3M diamond-grade reflective tape.

Black during the day, bright white at night.
