I'm 6"5" but I can't help. My GS has no fairing or w/s, and I'm keeping it that way!
I'm 6'1" and have the OEM cowling pictured below. sitting full up the wind hits me 6" below my helmet but I can tuck so the wind is hitting me mid helmet without turbulence in ether case. They don't make the OEM cowlings anymore but every once in a wile you can find them on eBay.

6' - 1" here. Last year I added the National Cycle, Plexistar 2 windshield for winter riding. The hand protection is great and it block most of the wind from my face. The wind just catches the top of my head.
I recommend it, especially for winter.

If you intend to do any sustained highway riding, you should get a shield to hide behind or deflect the wind with.
I have a flyscreen, and I like it, but as the temperature drops I begin to prefer John's suggestion of a taller shield and hand protection. Below 45F and 50+ mph, my hands are the first to numb out, with cold weather gloves.
I suspect the minimal shield height should be to at least the top of the mirrors. Less than that and you'll catch the blast in the helmet or below.
But if you do a lot of urban riding, a shield is not necessary. Comes into play at about 50 mph and faster. Regardless, let personal choice rule. :thumb:
I am still a noob but fwiw:
I'm 6', got a National Cycle Plexistar 3 windshield two weeks ago, works great, at highway speeds wind just hits top of helmet above visor when I am sitting almost upright, handguards even keep light rain off hands, also extends down farther than others I have seen and prevents wind coming up above about 3 or 4 inches over ankle.
btw: had to remove stock turnsignals to adjust it properly (stalks were in the way of bottom extensions) I put on LEDs inside windshield for front turnsignals and am going to replace rears with LEDs when I get em in.
I'm 6'2" and bought a GIVI a750 universal screen based on posts I've seen in these forums.

Although small, it does make a difference in reducing the windblast on my body. However, my helmet is still in the windstream unless I crouch down behind the shield. I like the looks of the screen and because most of my riding is around town below 60 mph, I've been satisfied. However, I have to say that if I did more highway driving I'd want a larger screen.

6'2" with a GS, but I keep it naked, don't ride far enough that I require a windshield.
6'6 here, I just grin and tuck in.

I've used a Plexi 2 type for years, but like a little more wind in the face in the summer. Put on a smaller Slipstreamer Spitfire type for summer use the past few years and now keep fittings on the 02 GS for both types. Can easily switch between them. Keep a Plexi 2 on the old 07 GS winter bike.
Not necessary for the wind to go over your head, I could not get the Spitfire high enough to do so. Wind in the face from the top edge of the shield is just too annoying even with full face helmet so just lowered the small shield a bit to allow this turbulant line of wind to pass at neck heigth.
Shield will keep wind off of chest for comfortable high speed travel and still allow plenty of wind in the face. For proof of this, I offer the fact that I managed to catch a small yellow jacket in my mouth this year with the Spitfire shield and Shoei RF1000 on and the face shield cracked open an inch. :lol: :thumb:
I'm 6' and had the F-18 and hated it. I sold it to another member and got a cruiser style shield. Unless you want it for looks its kinda useless, infact I was better off w/o it on cuz the wind that was buffering off the shield was knocking my head back w/ every gust and it was killing my neck. Worst that could happen you buy it, dont like it, and sell it to another GStwin member. :lol:

ok, so the F-18 is installed. I like it a lot so far. It directs the wind to my upper chest, which initially I was disappointed with, but after riding a bit this week, I like it...it's kind of like a cushion that helps keep my body up. I can tuck and get in behind the screen, but it still hits my helmet.
I'm 6'1", so it's not gonna get any better without a massive big touring shield. Basically, this just directs the air hitting my chest better, rather than just having the wind all over the place.

It does look good.I cant make up my mind to get it or a taller one for the winter.
i'll bet that anything that is smaller then these touring windshield will not do much, so I would just keep the best looking one...
FWIW, the stock windshield on my F directs the air to my upper torso. (i'm about 6'3")
