Title: Changeing the sprockets (15t)?
Post by: mountindewGS on September 22, 2005, 08:24:15 PM
Our bikes have alot of top end and very little bottem end which is good for beginners. What I want to do is add more torque to the bottem end without losing much top end. from what Iv'e read in past post it sound like I want a 15t front sprocket? Iv'e also read about the 14t front sprocket but it dosn't sound very good for your engine and chain. Am I getting the right idea from the past post on what front sprocket to use? I have a 2004 suzuki Gs500f do I need a front sprocket with a shoulder or no shoulder?

I believe you are right on track. I don't know much, but I don know that you want a 15t. Now a 14t is more, but I don't know about the side effects. I don't believe you need a new chain with the 15t.

You lost me on the shoulder stuff.  :dunno:

With.  14 tooth can raise the highway rpm to an itrritating level - if your main use is lower speed roads you will never notice.

You can also change the rear sprocket to a different size.

Search through a few 15T threads to see what people have said...  Not a huge difference, but still noticeable.

Will I did read the ones I could find about change the sprocket to a 15t or 14t, and it seem alot more people like the stock rear sprocket and a 15t in the front. But what I would like to know is what dose the 15t front sprocket exactly change? what dose the 14t front sprocket change?

It will change your gear ratios...

So...  You'll need to shift a little earlier and a little more often...  and have less top end (meaning 110 MPH is pretty much out of the question).

The good news is that you have a little more torque to the wheel.
